What I thought would be another typical round with my dad.

  1. I don’t get to play much golf due to work schedule and twin toddlers. So I savor the time I do get to play, especially since I usually always play with my dad. He’s played golf since his twenties, and I love that we can share this. He has never had a hole in one, despite his lowest insect being around 10. On August 19th, 2020, we were playing at our local course as a last minute decision since I didn’t need to work an OT shift I thought I’d have to. We were at Blue Rock in Vallejo CA on the west course. I’d been playing fairly well. My index is a 15, but coming down. I’m always working on my swing since I don’t get to play that consistently. On the 13th hole I found something that was comfortable while being able to keep my wrist in a good position throughout the swing. We got the the 15th, par 3 140 yards downhill into the wind, playing closer to 132. I am playing the AP3’s and I love them. Soft feel, forgiving when missing the middle, long, and nice to look at. No complaints. I pulled my pitching wedge. It was a good distance for my PW, but looking at everything, I’d rather be a little short than long on that hole since it has a pretty sever drop off in back. My 9 iron is normally 148-152, so I didn’t want to make the mistake of long. Line up aiming just to the right of the flag since my most common mistake is a slight pull, and that aim point should keep me on the green if the pull were to happen. Took the swing and made perfect contact. Well, maybe a yard pull, but for me that is perfect. I’ll take that on any shot. While the ball was headed to the green, my dad says “that’s a good line, could be good”. It’s been really smoky here in Northern California so he had a hard time seeing it all the way to the hole. I have better vision so I was tracking it the whole way. My response was “if it has the distance”. It landed pin high about 6 inches to the right of the pin, one hop to the left a little and spun in. I watched it go in and heard it hit the flag stick. Couldn’t tell what kind of velocity it still had, but it didn’t bounce off or lip out, it just stuck. It was a great shot and a great day. Hole in one is fantastic, but just icing on the cake of time spent with my dad.
