At age 71, I finally scored my first Hole-in-One. My son had given me a dozen Prov1x for my birthday and I had managed to loose all but a sleeve of them during the past 3 weeks. On June 9, 2020 I broke out the last sleeve and was playing the Garnet side at Cobblestone Park Golf Club (Blythewood SC).
The "Ace" came on the 4th hole, 130 yard Par 3 to an elevated green. Using an 8 iron, the ball was tracking towards the hole. A playing partner told me that it looks real good. Usually, I'm always long on that hole so jokingly I told him the iced tea is on me. Because it's an elevated green no one can see where their ball is until we get to the top. We get to the green and count 3 balls, one is missing. One of the guys tells me to go look in the hole but I refused and told him to look for me. There it was, my Prov1x, with the red line through "Titleist" sitting in the hole, on top of the foam insert (Co-Vid19) the club has placed in all of the holes. My partners (Jeff Leavitt, Pete Lalos and Dr. Tom Bailey) are excited for me, I'm dumbfounded.
We get to the next hole, and not thinking, teed it up using the same ball that gave me my Ace. Fortunately, it was a good hit. My partners allowed me to switch balls prior to my next shot. Good thing I did because I put my third shot into the water. The "1" looked out of place between the double bogey "6" on the 3rd hole and a triple bogey "8" on the 5th hole.
I have been golfing for over 50 years and have witnessed several "aces". At age 71 the blind squirrel finally found an acorn.
