My parents just moved back from living in Las Vegas after being there for the past 14 years. My father, brother, and I have always been big golfers. This year I was finally going to be able to golf with my dad when I wanted and I was pretty excited. Well, two weeks after they arrived the world was stopped. Not knowing when anything would happen, it felt like we may not even be able to play anytime soon. As time past, the golf itch became stronger and stronger, but in Michigan the restrictions continued. Then toward the end of April hope was given, courses opened with restrictions. The problem, my dad can’t walk a round of golf due to knee and back issues. So again we had to wait. Toward the End of May it was time! Carts were allowed and the weather was finally going to be nice. Of course the Sunday before Memorial Day was fully booked at almost every course and it was supposed to rain, but we wanted to play. After some back and forth we decided to play on Monday morning at my new favorite course in the area. Monday morning comes and I arrive at the course just ready to enjoy a round with my dad. Weather was great. We paired with another father and son. As we waited on the first tee, the next group pulled up and after talking we realized they were the time before us so we let them go. It felt like the right thing to do. So we waited a little longer. Finally we were off!! I hit my usual horrible first tee shot and dad hit in the fairway, but it’s ok cause we have been just waiting to be out on the course. Finished the hole with par’s and on to the next hole, a par three with water on the right. I lasered the flag at 185yd, slight wind at us, back flag. Easy pick, 5iron because the hole typically plays longer with the wind. The other father and son hit, then my dad and he’s on the green. Great, more pressure. I tee up, go through my routine. I address the ball, “ smooth swing, club face straight back” are my swing thoughts. I hit, felt solid. Look up and the ball has a straight path, definitely on the green. I bent down and picked up my tee and start to walk back to the cart. The other two said nice shot, then the son said “where’d it go?” I looked up and could see the ball and said “looks like it’s behind the hole”. Now our course has sponges in the cups so the ball doesn’t go all the way in. I kept looking as we drove up saying “that is close”. And as we parked next to the green, I started to get excited. The ball looked so close I didn’t bother grabbing my putter. “There is a chance!” I thought. I speed walked up and noticed shortly after stepping on the green that the ball was resting on the sponge in the cup! I threw up my hands and gave a big rick flare “wooo!” “Yes!” With a big smile, I grabbed the ball then fixed the ball mark 5ft in front of the hole. No high fives, just cheers from all. It’s an amazing memory that I will forever cherish that was so great to be shared with my dad, my hero, my Marine. My second hole in one, both have been on Memorial Day!!!
