Right after California gave golf courses the “ok” to open back up, I heard a course in brea, California was open and ready to play. Birch Hills golf course, somewhere I’ve never played before, I called for a tee time Friday, April 24th @11:38am. Showed up to the course a little early, walked in to check in and pay. I started to getting a little excited to play, do to this lockdown, anything to get outside was a treat. Gave the club house my name and time, NO WHERE TO BE FOUND ON THEIR RECORDS. Seems like they double booked me with an already completed 4sum. After some time they finally let me play. Hole 7, 97 yards, titleist 56degree wedge, and a titleist proV1 ball. Because of the virus the course removed the flag sticks from the holes and raised the hole about halfway up to easily reach down to pick up your ball without touching the flag or cup edge. So looking out into the distance at the green and there is no flag to be seen, just green. A general target. So I hit the ball, aimed straight at the green, felt great about my shot. As I walked up to the green there was some disbelief on how close I thought my ball was too the hole, Not realizing my ball was actually in the hole! “HOLE IN F***** ONE!” I shouted, calling my brother right away. A beautiful pin high divot, with that classic proV backspin, right into the hole! Took a few minutes to sink in but what an amazing feeling. I’m a retired ice hockey player and love golf because of the similarities to a golf swing and a slap shot. The mental workout and just golf alone, such a difficult game that demands consistency. Has been a great new hobby obsession of mine away from the ice rink. Making a hole in one is something most pro golfers never achieve, so to make one myself is truly an honor. #holeinoneclub
