March 29, 2020, Arlington TX On the 14th tee box of Tierra Verde Golf Club I changed my mind and switched from my AP3 P Wedge to my 9 iron. It's a tiered island green that slopes to the water. A short shot or too much spin is fatal. For me, a long 9 iron is better than a short P wedge on this 100 yard play. When the yellow Tour Soft ball hit the green it was directly in line with the white flag stick. It appeared as a large exclamation point with a yellow dot. My thought was "awesome, another potential birdie". The front 9 was not so kind and I was struggling to save the round. I missed an eagle putt on 13, picked up the birdie and now have the chance to land another on 14. Smile, keep calm and make the putt. Cliff was off the tee before me and was shy of the top tier and rolled down toward the water but remained dry. Ben had played a yellow ball after me and landed 3 feet to the right of the pin. Kristi, missing from golfing for a number weeks, was just getting her game back. Had some bad luck and donated 2 in the pond. We all jumped in to our separate carts (Covid-19, social distancing rules was the world we were in) and made our way across the bridge and up the to the green. As I was approaching the green with my Scotty Cameron in hand, Cliff yelled, "Where did your ball go?". My ball was gone! I couldn't believe my ball rolled down the tiered green gathering speed before plunging in the dark water. Oh the golf gods are cruel....but it's happened before and there's nothing you can do. To validate my fear, I check the only yellow ball on the green. Ben hollers out "That's mine, check the hole!". Check the hole? What's Ben talking about? I'm confused and I slowly turn my head. There to my astonishment is my yellow Titleist! Instinctively I turn to retrieve my phone from the cart. I need memorialize this and provide proof to my brothers. We are a very competitive trio and needed evidence! Kristi was way ahead of me with her phone out to capture this moment in video and photo format. Drinks all around on me! A great day with good friends and an awesome memory!
