Let me set the stage. I am currently on rotation to Korea with the Army. I had spent 3 days spooling up to fly out, but kept getting delayed due to no available aircraft. I finally got on the bird and landed on a Saturday morning, slightly delirious from the jet lag. I slept most of the day and unfortunately was up most of the night. I had one day off to acclimate and get settled into my new quarters. On a brisk Sunday morning, I decided to go check out the little 9 hole course on Camp Casey. I could not bring my clubs with me so I had to rent a very well used set of cally Stratas, regular flex, with more offset than I care to look at. I currently hit stiff flex KBS 120s hardstepped, so you can imagine how the beat up old rental clubs felt to me. I dinked around the course with a random group of Soldiers, not daring to hit anything more than an iron off the tee. The only things I had that belonged to me was a cheap glove, some wooden tees, and a sleeve of PRO V1x's that I paid entirely too much for ($20). I had to hit my golf ball of choice though! I get up to the 6th tee box, a 155 yard par 3 surrounded by oddly shaped bunkers. I pulled out the 7 iron with its grooves caked from years of soldier's abuse, stood over my #2 Titleist and tried not to stare at the offset. I struck it well. I felt like I hit it almost too well. It started about 10 yards right and drew in perfectly. I completely lost sight of the ball over the mounds of the bunkers. I had to have flown the green, a normal 7 iron for me flies 165. The four of us walked up to the green and my ball is nowhere to be seen. I must have it to the fairway of the next hole. Time to take the walk of shame. I asked the guys teeing off on the next hole if they had seen a ball come through, but they didn't. It was too wide open of a course, and the ball was on too good of a line for it to be lost. What the heck? Finally, one of the guys in my group hollers. They had been finishing up the hole while I searched for my ball. Wouldn't you know it, bottom of the cup was my #2 Pro V1x. First hole in one of my life, jetlagged, jeans and a t-shirt, beat up rental set 7 iron, brand new Pro V1x. Had to have been the ball, right?
