I thought my golf for the year was over. Right before New Year's Eve though, we got a window of nice weather in NJ and on December 30 I was able to squeeze one last round into 2022 at local muni, Raritan Landing. The third hole at Raritan is a 264 yard Par 4 that's protected in front by a small trench. I pull driver, tee up a Pro V1 I just got for Christmas, and hit a solid drive that looks like it makes the green. Walking up I'm hoping I got it close enough that I have a decent shot at my first Eagle. But as I get closer, I don't see the ball. I'm ticked, I really thought my tee shot was good. Thinking maybe I came up short, I look in the trench - nothing. I must have went over, so I annoyedly head over to far side of the green to look. Then, while reading his putt, one of my playing partners notices a ball in the cup:
"George! Do you mark your Pro Vs with an exclamation point?"
"I do. Why?"
"I found your tee shot... in the hole!"
I thought he was messing with me, but I ran down to hole and there it was - that beautiful Titleist 3 with an exclamation point looking right back up at me. So no first Eagle for me that day, an Albatross would have to do.
