At our annual alumni golf outing held at the Links at Outlook in South Berwick, Maine, my former coach always works the 50/50 closest to the pin contest on the 14th hole, a downhill, 142-yd par 3. One of my favorite holes because we get to hang with Coach for a bit as it usually backs up with foursomes as everybody loves to catch up with him. For my foursome, it was the second to last hole of the day, and I have been bringing up my friends from home, all former football players themselves, but from different schools. Sure enough, there were plenty of former Wildcats hanging around the tee box catching up with Coach when it was our turn to hit. Plenty of witnesses, plenty of celebration once the ball went in the cup. What made it even more special was that the ball I used was a Pro V1 that had a logo on it given as a gift at the memorial tournament our foursome also plays annually in memory of our friend, who we lost 5 years ago. Couldn't have written a better script for my first hole in one, with a special ball, surrounded by close friends and one of the great mentors in my life. GO CATS!
