  1. trying to decide which grip for new 2018 SC Newport 2 - conflicting info, so asking if anyone can help clarify: the new SC Newport 2 comes with his standard grip which i have been told, weighs 85g. considering replacing with the SuperStroke Flatso 1.0, which is supposedly lighter at 55g(?) although, i have also been told, replacing a SC grip immediately reduces resale value (??)

given that one would think SC grips are designed to go specifically with HIS putters, taking into account putter head weight & balance, + the shaft, leaning toward just staying with how it comes. on the other hand, read good things about the SS, but "supposedly" since they are lighter, may affect putter head & shaft performance.

so, reaching out for any comments, advice. aware it may boil down to personal preference, but logically one would think SC has considered grip construction as part & parcel, but then again, it's his brand, SS is not. in addition, have read SC grips are simply Winn grips, disguised as a "SC", and have also read where many seem to be less happy.

    thx for any input.

Scotty Cameron Matador grips are by Winn as far as I know. I replaced my original SC Pistolini on my Newport 2 Select with a SC Matador medium, but then later switched up to a Matador large. I don't know about weight and balance, I just know I like the way I putt best with the Matador large. Don't overthink the weight of the grip. If it feels good to you, IMO, that's all that matters.

As far as resale value, if you are concerned about that, replace the grip with the original version before you list it for sale. No one would want your old original beat up grip anyway. I change my putter grip at least a couple times a a season. I think most people who are conscious of how beat up their grip gets over time, do the same.
  3. thx for all the advice & observations; should NOT have mentioned resale value, it appears each reply fixated more on that instead of my main inquiry, i did not buy to resale; it was simply a throw-a-way comment someone made to me "IF" i ever did want to sell, that's it.
as to the GRIP, i was asking opinions as to whether should replace the standard grip due to some comments about Winn; grip weight vis-à-vis effect on putter head & shaft re: balancing; & comments about quality of Matador Select Black v. SS Flatso 1.0. obviously i would like the "right" grip, & very aware it's personal. i would think SC would be as concerned with outfitting his putters with what he thinks should be the "best" grip, then let others decide if they prefer something else - that's all i was asking. so, do others generally switch out, or go with the SC's choice? and, if accurate that the Matador grip IS 85g, what IS the weight of the SS Flatso 1.0?
as i'm sure many are aware here, u do see many using the SS grips. thx

I love the Matador medium but it's not available. Which Winn is the replacement?

I would of thought that having the right grip that suits you is more important than what the resale value is.

Use what works best for you. Jordan Speith uses a Superstroke on his SC, doesn't he? As far as the weight, it's a putter. You aren't taking a full swing so the effect should be minimal. You may be able to order your new Scotty with the grip not installed so you have it and can put it on later.

As far as resale, you can always order another grip if it makes sense.

Do what works for your game, not what people tell you to.

Stop for just a moment. Are you buying the putter to use or to resell? If it is to use, then order what you want as a grip. If 'your' grip has a different weight than the SC grip, it will affect balance and feel. Lighter grip weight probably provided more head feel (adds swingweight points).

If you are more concerned about resale value, order it with the stock grip and have a good club repair facility remove the SC grip and replace with your choice. Keep the SC grip in a cool, dry place (I put grips into a small plastic bag to try to keep it from drying out).

    Hope this helps!

S/S has weighted grips. Like the other guys have said, go with what feels good.
