titleist made in korea vs. us?

    emailed Titleist in regards to a set of  710 AP2 irons i just bought off ebay.  this is the response i received, in part:

    You will have to take the clubs to an authorized Titleist retailer, who can send the clubs into our Warranty and Repairs Department.  We will bring the clubs in for inspection, which will help to determine the authenticity of the clubs.  If the clubs are authentic we will re-head them with a 710 US AP2 (not a Korean AP2 head, which is what that serial # is linked to).

    can someone explain to me the difference between US vs. Korean AP2s?  I know that Titleist is now owned by a Korean company, but that doesn't seem to be what they are saying.  Also, assuming they are real, am i reading correctly  that they will replace all 8 heads with US-versions?  if they do that i don't think i will EVER play anything but Titleist again!

    No disrespect to Fila Korea, but I love to buy American as much as possible.  I know that the ball plant is in Mass and the R&D is in California, which is great, but I would even be willing to pay a premium to get some good old USA irons.  It might help keep Titleist's intellectual property safer to keep things made in the US as well.  Anything we can do to support our own country and thwart the counterfeiters and rip off artists out there is a good thing IMO.

    Titleist facilities in Mass and California are owned by Fila Korea. Titleist was pursuing IPO, so not sure how they might have changed the legal structure these days. If they ever pull out a succesful IPO, then it will re-become an American company.

    I won't count on American club manufucaturing plant just because the transition will be very costly. But, I hope Titleist will go for it. 'Made in America' sticker will be well worth it!

    Hi Matt, It is rare to see a set of authentic irons made for Korea here in the US. We see "fake" sets made with Asian serial numbers sold in the US and the "Titleist" does fall off on those sets. If it is an authentic set, we would rehead it for you with US heads. The difference is the weight of the heads, but we would match it as close as possible. Please take your set to a local Titleist retailer and have them set up a warranty inspection.
