Wow, had the round of my life going yesterday with my father and soon to be brother-in-law.  Shot 88, 41 on front nine and 47 on back.  It confirmed what My Game was showing.  It's my GIR,  I only have 1 or 2 on the back nine but I have 5-6 on the front nine.

Hoping weather holds off today so I can get out today with my father-in-law and maybe an encore!

Congrats man, I've been close to breaking 90 lately too.  Yesterday, I shot a 43 with 5 G.I.R.'s on the front and 50 with 1 G.I.R on the back, it makes a big difference when you can 2 putt for par.

First time I broke 90 was a week before going to boot camp in the Navy (1975). I broke 90 again in 2009 when I took up the Game again and have pretty much remained in the mid 80s. I had a period of time between March of last year and January of this year because I switched from my DIY irons to Eye 2s and DCI 981s so I had a game or two that hovered near 47 for 9 holes (main reason was trying to use the 6 and 7 irons). 4 months ago I went back to using a 7H and my scores have been around 43-44 for 9 on the average at Riverwalk and about +3 on the exec courses. Work on your short game. I switched my short irons to AP1 and am pretty pleased with the way they hit (don't need a 6 iron because the distance gap between the 7 iron and my 5H is 10-15 yards). I just got the AP1 8 iron off eBay because it has the correct shaft and grip.

  4. Congrats on breaking 90!

Thanks everybody! Man, played a new course Sunday and was humbled. Shot 101 with 9 more outta than Saturday. Went from my best round to one of my worst. Pared the first two hikes then started to slip up. Ended up with a 45 though. Then back 9 started awful, quadruple and a triple right away (went OB on first and had to drop, then 3 jacked next hole). Mentally fell apart abs started to question my setup and swing abs worst started to question my putting. Best part? I got out to golf all weekend and I saw I was capable of playing well. Motivation will be fueled by that 88!

Thanks guys!  Thanks to My Game for allowing me to track my stats I know where I need to focus.  I need to play it safer sometimes, I get too aggressive and it costs me GIR.

Conservative golf WORKS. Lesson learned at Miramar about a year ago. Shot an 85. The reason I had 3 double bogeys is I tried to muscle my 7 wood 200 yards and tried to use a 3 wood; all 3 attempts were rather ugly slices. Had 8 pars that day. Part of playing better is working less. For instance, why hit a full golf shot with a sand wedge at 80 yards when it is easier to pitch a PW? Or take a 1/2 swing pitch at 40 with a GW vice a full pitch with a LW? Unless the situation dictates it (tight pin position). Also have a backup shot in case something goes haywire (let's say a sudden case of shankitis sets in on a full swing with the GW - pitch a 7 iron).
