It's not every weekend that I play back-to-back rounds (Sat/Sun). I'd say it only happens a few times a year... and I started to think back on if playing these back-to-back rounds either helped or hurt the latter round.
I have a back-to-back planned for this weekend, with Sunday's course being the original plan, as the only round for the weekend; however, a buddy reached out and now I'm set for Saturday and Sunday. The only reason why this has me thinking, is because Sunday's course is the one I'm REALLY looking forward to, and one I've been waiting to play.
Since the latter is the more important round, it had me thinking I'll go into Saturday as more of a practice round, looking to play shots that I'll need for the next day. If the days were switched, I'd be completely focused on Saturday and thinking of Sunday as more of a regular casual round.
Thinking back, playing back-to-back has probably helped more than it has hurt the latter round. I try to carry thoughts/feels to into the next day, and I'll have a pretty good idea on what shots are working when the time counts. The only times it may have had a negative impact, are those 2nd rounds at a stay/play w/ your buddies, when the nights are longer than normal... and "where the beer flows like wine".
Your thoughts?
