I agree 100% with Bryson on this one especially on a flat area of the golf course.

"That you have to drop it from knee height is a bit absurd, unfortunately," he said, according to Golf Channel's Rex Hoggard. "I think that you should be able to go from knee height to shoulder height. There should be no issue with that, whatever you want to do, honestly."

I get the reasoning, that the drop must stay in the relief area now instead of a club-length beyond. It will cut down on all those times you see pros drop twice and then get to hand place it in a perfect position.

All about speeding the game up IMO.

I don't like stopping for stop signs either , but hay it's the rules.
  5. I had to drop Sat and it felt like I was cheating dropping from that height.

I felt the same. Im sure it may speed up play a bit but......

Drop should be allowed at any height between the players knees and shoulder.
I would think that most players would drop from a near waist height.

Most silly rule in all of golf.

    Drop it like it's hot!!!

In a situation where the slope is so steep (off the green sloping into a water hazard, (I know... penalty area...lol,) for instance), it would be time saving to place the ball by hand after one attempted drop instead of the caddie catching it and re dropping twice. If the USGA wants to speed up the game that would be something to look at.

Originally the USGA was going to go with dropping from any height as long as there was room between the ball and the ground, then it was changed to knee height. If speed of play is the goal, just place it. Same with leaving the pin in. This is creating slower play on the green than before as some people in the group want it in and others want it out.

I'm looking forward to see guys work on this drop around the practice area.
Will there be instructors on YouTube showing us how it's done properly?

Check out new rules videos on the USGA site.

Speith almost forgot and had his caddie and Slugger White not reminded him he would have dropped from shoulder height.
