    I play indoor golf as well during the winter, we play in a league and it's a lot of fun for me and my buddy. And i have to agree with you, I play a lot better inside versus outside. Only thing I take seriously is when hitting driver and irons but even then I question the results. Other thing I factor in is that I'm hitting off a smooth mat giving myself a sweet lie so there's no reason NOT to hit a decent shot.

    So for indoor golf, I'm just there to keep loose and have a great time and to scratch that golf itch. And rarely do I take those results into considerations. Shooting a 73 at Kiawah? HA! Will never happen in real life. IMO, it's just video game golf.

    I have a scorecard from the Ocean course at Kiawah Island Resort, dated June 13, 1997, on my wall in my mancave. Birdied number one, finished the front with a 37 and ended my round with a solid 77. Best round I ever shot there and I have played it many times. We were playing the blue tees and kept it in the fairway most of the day. Conditions were awesome. Now, at the age of 72, doubt that I could match that feat. Fortunately we can play outdoors here in the lowcountry of S Carolina most of the year. It is 64 degrees outside now and finished 18 holes at noon today with my senior men's league.

    I love to hit the simulator when the weather is bad outside.
    I’m not convinced it does me much good lol
    But it helps keep my swing in some sort of shape.

    I wish I had an indoor golf league where I live. I would definitely play in a league to stay sharp for the warmer months.

    I agree with both of you guys. It's not perfect, but it's better than not playing anything. Kinda more the feel of bowling where you take your shot then go back and have a sip of your beer, or nachos til your turn to take a shot again. Keep a watch here on the TT board, many times, Mike, Abby, Rick and team will schedule a TT get together at an indoor facility around here, since you're both in or near the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts.

    I hadn't thought of it that way but you are 100% right. It DOES feel like bowling!

    I had a chance to attend one of the TT events last year in Ashland. It was a great time. Hopefully there is another one this winter! Always great to see the TT team and some faces from the board.

    I live in Wisconsin, so its either play simulators during the winter or don't golf at all. I have a friend that put a sim in his garage, so we will hit 18-27 holes every other Saturday... we are all too busy to play during the week.

    The cool thing is, I will go over early and just hit at the "range" for an hour or so and track my distances, swing speed, etc. The sim is cool, but because the putting function isn't super accurate, we allow it to auto-putt for us, which can be wildly inaccurate as well. (Has one player 3 putt from 12 feet and another drain a 45 footer) Even so, I'm typically around 6-8 strokes better indoors.

    Like some others have said...this is strictly to scratch that golf itch". Every sim I've played reacts a little different, every mat you hit off will be a little different...best not to take it too seriously.

    I go to an indoor golf sim by me that has 5 or 6 rooms all with Trackman. Obviously its not ideal, but I can do most of my drills there. It keeps me in it. I love all the data the Trackman shows as well.

    Best part: I never have to look for my ball in the woods.

    Agree to all the above. Great chance to get loose and work on mechanics in effort for a better outdoor season. For those that have access to a Trackman, I highly recommend trying to do the Trackman combine.

    When i get my lessons, my instructor will give me that test (Trackman combine). It's very interesting and a lot of fun to see where you line up and it's not easy!

    Just got back from an hour's worth of practice. I try to hit the indoor sim once or twice a week if possible. Rarely play a round unless out with friends but that is a fun activity as well given the snow we have been receiving up here. The sim I use has High Definition Golf Sims - they seem to give reasonable feedback in terms of club path angle and direction - I always give the ranges a grain of salt or two.


    I am wondering if there are opinions as to which sim gives the best feedback for practice (not really interested in the video game aspects - though those are cool) but in terms of accuracy, especially on the club / ball parameters. I would think the TM systems would be pretty good though there are no set-ups near me. Thoughts?

    One of the benefits of living in Fl. is paying outside all year long. Was a great day today 75* and gorgeous . Hit um straight my friends.

    I haven’t played on a simulator in years, but what I remember and dislike the most was how forgiving it is on fat shots. Here on the CT coast, we luckily are spared the worst part of winter - closed courses!! I try to get out at least once a month

    Ive tried indoor golf and it isn't for me. I'm sure its a mental thing, but I can't make good swings indoors. Even at my indoor fitting sessions I can't make good, consistent contact ... I Know its weird !!!

    I love using my skytrak in my backyard during the normal golf season ( massachusettes), but mostly for practice not for playing simulated rounds, It has made noticeable improvements to my game for distances, ball striking,and shot shaping but it seems useless for chipping and putting. Living in a 4 season part of the world I'm definitely in favor of indoor practice just not for 18 holes and score keeping.

    My brother-in-law and myself play all the time! We live in Indiana so the winter months here can really drag on. The course that we play at has 4 simulators and they just updated all of their equipment and software! Not as good as on the course but it is a lot of fun and a good way to get swings in!

    Here in MI, it's like other have said...sims or nothing. I don't take a lot of stock in the sim results, but I can work on some swing issues. I at least get an idea of path, face angle, and speed. When the grass makes an appearance, I can see how much that pays off.

    I’m strongly considering purchasing a launch monitor and simulator for the house. Here in Michigan there is just to much down golf down time a couple trips a winter just doesn’t cut it. I just feel like it would be a ton of fun to run a game with friends a night a week. Anyone have recommendations? We use the flightscope monitor with e6 at the club. I’m intrested in the gcquad system with fsx as well.

    I love this idea. I wish I had more info or a recommendation to pass along. I hope someone has some thoughts for you on a good in-home setup.

    For my wife and I it becomes a "golf activity" we can do in the winter. Putting is nearly impossible so you really have to set the "gimmee" distance to a reasonable amount. The ability to click on "mulligan" helps too ;) On several, the width of the platform is a problem for me. I sometimes feel like my foot is right on the edge. We've played on one sim that actually adjusts the angle of the platform to create the uphill/sidehill lies. That one also had hitting surfaces for "rough" and "sand". You couldn't hit your shot unless you placed the ball on the correct surface. That one also fed you the balls rather than having to retrieve your ball. Nice to get some swings in, and it's fun.
