It is arguably one of the most popular games to play on the golf course... The Nassau. Just about all of us have played it at one time or another. It's simple. It's fun. And it's an easy way to add a little friendly competition to the round.

But did you know its origins traced back to a country club in Long Island that is the games namesake? That's right, Nassau Country Club. Check out this video to get the story behind the game.

Bonus Fact: Nassau Country Club was also the same place where Bobby Jones was first introduced to his legendary flat stick known as Calamity Jane. As the story goes, after a round at Nassau, Jim Maiden, the head pro at the time, handed Bobby a putter from his shop. They walked over to the 18th green so Bobby could give it a few rolls. As the putts continued fall with ease, Bobby had found the putter that was destined for his game. Jim kindly parted ways with Calamity Jane and Bobby went on to win the 1923 U.S. Open at Inwood with it in the bag. And it stayed there until Bobby hung up his spikes for good in 1930 after completing the Grand Slam.

Thanks for the history lesson, Mike. Simple everyday topic that has a very wide impact on the game and how we play it.

I did not know that's where nassau originated. A 2 or 5 dollar nassau is a very easy way to make the round a little more exciting.
