In some ways this whole pandemic really made me re-think golf, my attitude and everything else. Like everyone else nothing was open. So for those 8-10 weeks or whatever it was, it was just my mat, golf net and a tiny par 3 in my backyard to stay in shape. But not being out there was tough so started thinking what can I do differently on the course, what needs to change. 2 things came to mind, my attitude and how appreciative I was to be able to play this game.
Attitude, I've always had a little bit of a poor attitude when playing bad and that needed to change pronto. I've been saying this for years and somehow it was still there. Who cares what you shoot or what your hcp is. That doesn't define you. Your personality and how you handle yourself on the course does. It's only game PERIOD. Bad shots will happen. Period. Hit your shot, SMILE and move on.
Appreciation. I thought a lot about this while not being able to play. I really started to think how damn lucky I was to be able to play this game. Golf has brought me to some amazing places around the world but most importantly I've met a lot of amazing people and being a part of Team Titleist has A LOT to do with this so very thankful for this community.
So when golf finally opened up, I snagged the 3rd tee time on the first day at my home course. The group allowed me to tee off first. Teed it up and BOOM, sliced it. Picked up my tee, smiled and off we went. Sure felt good to be back.
Cheers to a fun year! Peace and love to all.
