2020 Team Titleist Invitational Format?

    What will be the format at this event? Will all players tee off at the same tee (green or gold)?, or will senior golfers tee off from another tee further down, applying rule 3-5? Thanks!

    The Invitational is more about comraderie than competition. For that reason we typically do a friendly blind-team scoring format. We also suggest tees but they are only required to compete for longest drive and closest to the pin prizes.

    That being said, we will circulate a player preference survey in the very near future so golfers can specify preferred playing partners, abilities, competition interest, etc..

    I am one of guys Alian is talking about. At 60+ I have moved up to the middle tees (but do play back for the closest-to-the-pin holes). I'm more interested in having fun with the group that being competitive in the low gross/net, especially since my 9 is now an 11 and continuing to creep upwards. Great thing is these events allow both the competitive folks to go after the low scores and other just to have some fun. Always a great couple of days. Mid-October can't get here fast enough.

    Being a fun event and me being 70, I can play tees where I don't have to use driver/metal on par 4's or driver/metal/metal on par 5's. So the kids can play 6500+ yards and I can play closer to 6000. I don't think there will be much time cranking in slope values for white vs. blue for correct handicapping. If I want to try for a closest to the pin, I can step back. I'll just be admiring how far the longest drives go.

    I will add that having played at Bandon in years past, tees sometimes don't matter. If you watched some of the US Amateur on TV you saw how much the course conditions change based on weather. Lucky for me, since I usually play there in the winter, we get cold and rain but not much wind. October will be their transitional period. Maybe still warm and sunny days with wind and maybe some rain and calm days. If we get windy days, you will want to play a lot of low, running shots and any of the multiple tee boxes will not change the down-wind holes from playing short and the in-to-the-wind holes from being brutal. It's a blast to play out there in any conditions.

    Completely agree Dale. Like many links style courses, the course difficulty is highly dependent on the weather condition. The southern Oregon coast can give players a variety of weather conditions in a 24hour period.

    I have had this discussion many times with many times with different folks. There is no rule in the rules of golf that says older golfer should play a different tee. This would be a call for the tournement committee. In fact the official guide to the rules of golf effective January 2019 doesn't not even have a rule 3-5 listed. Using course handicaps by the tee you have chosen would be the best way to insure that all players are playing on a equal level. I tried to find it but couldn't but I saw a suggestion , I think it was from the Carolinas Golf Assn , that tees should not be assigned by gender or age. With regards
