Hey, Team Titleist.
After a two-year absence, the Open Championship returns this week! I don't watch as much golf on t.v. as I used to, but this weekend I'm going to soak in every minute I can. For me, there's just something inherently dramatic about links golf and it got me to thinking. Is there any true links golf on this side of the Atlantic? I've never been to the UK or Ireland, so I'm hoping some better-traveled members of TT can help answer the following question:
Are there any courses in North America that can truly be called Links Courses?
Many U.S. courses boast "Links" in their names, but I bet very few can replicate the turf, bunkering and playing conditions that they have in the old country. My guess is that places like The Ocean Course at Kiawah and Shinnecock Hills GC come pretty close, but please set me straight. Weigh in with your vote for most-links-like, especially if you've had a chance to play a track or two in the Open Rota. Thanks!
