It’s been a busy week for our Tour teams around the world. Across the pond in Scotland, our LPGA Tour players are teeing it up in the 5th and final major of the year at the AIG Women’s Open while our PGA Tour players are here state-side for the start of the FedexCup Playoffs.
Keep reading to get the inside scoop on how #TeamTitleist is getting their games ready and primed to compete, featuring a look inside their bags, feedback from our Tour reps, and more.
AIG Women’s Open
This week at the AIG Women’s Open, players will look to tame the 6850 yard layout of the famed Carnoustie Golf Links, home to numerous Major Championships on worldwide professional tours and the amateur circuits.
Heading into the week, we caught up with Titleist Brand Ambassador Bronte Law, a UK native herself, to take a look at the all-Titleist setup she’s gaming this week:
From the Tour Truck at Carnoustie
While you’re watching the action this week, you may get a glimpse at a couple of new T-Series irons in the bags of #TeamTitleist – including Nelly Korda and Danielle Kang.
Korda, the current World No.1, added a new T200 4-iron to the bag this week to combat the strong Scottish headwinds that players will face. Korda first discussed adding a long iron for the Open with J.J. Van Wezenbeeck, Titleist’s Director of Player Promotions, while the new T-Series irons were still in the prototype phase. In June, Van Wezenbeeck sent Korda the 4-iron to begin testing.
“We discussed having a lower flight option but not so low that it was one-dimensional,” Van Wezenbeeck said. “She loved the ball speed and carry she could get in a lower window than her hybrid.”
Kang made a quick visit to the Titleist Performance Institute last week to meet with Van Wezenbeeck before heading to Scotland, where she made some final tweaks and tested the new T100 irons before adding them to the bag this week.
“Danielle was really excited on the shape of the new irons and just how classic and clean the lines were,”said Van Wezenbeeck. “The extra forgiveness she got over the CB’s she had previously been playing was really helpful – so that when she missed a shot, she still got similar ball speeds, higher launch and better dispersion.”
Also with new T100 irons in the bag is Brand Ambassador Emily Kristine Pederson, a native of Denmark, who is making her sixth AIG Women’s Open appearance this week at Carnoustie. Check out her full setup above.
The Northern Trust
Back on the other side of the Atlantic, Team Titleist has been hard at work preparing for the start of the FedExCup Playoffs at The Northern Trust, played this year at Liberty National Golf Course.
Our team has been on-site all week in Jersey City, checking out not only the panoramic views of the New York City Skyline and the Statue of Liberty, but also the fine-tuned swings of our PGA Tour Players on the range this week at the Northern Trust. Take a look for yourself below:
And while players will get an uninterrupted view of Lady Liberty from many parts of the course, one player will have an all-American themed #SM8 in the bag this week. Check out this custom-stamped Vokey Design Wedge that Titleist Tour Rep Aaron Dill created for Brand Ambassador Robert Streb at the start of the week.
We also caught up with Brand Ambassadors Hank Lebioda and Troy Merritt to get a look at the setups they’ll be gaming this week at Liberty National.
Lebioda, making his first FedExCup Playoffs appearance, added the new T100 irons to his bag earlier this season at the Travelers Championship. After adding the new models to the bag, he went on to record three, consecutive top-10 finishes – T5 (Travelers), T4 (Rocket Mortgage) and T8 (John Deere) – to jump 58 spots in the FedExCup Standings.
Merritt also saw momentum after adding the new irons to the bag, making a hole-in-one with his new T200 5-iron at the Rocket Mortage Classic – the first hole-in-one on tour for the newest generation of T-Series irons.
