  1. I asked this question to Mr. Van Pelt, and his answer was, "Whittling wood", so...

What are your hobbies? What do you like to do? Do you enjoy traveling? Cars? Animals? Whatever it is, tell us about it!

When I'm not practicing or playing...

I enjoy motorcycle "road" racing(Moto G.P., A.M.A., etc.) and riding my motorcycle in general. Lets just say, motorcycles. I really enjoy track days. I've been to Mid-Ohio and a few other places. I'd really like to go to Laguna Seca. I'd also like to go to a place called Deals Gap.

Obviously, I love spending time with my family. Sometimes we travel. Sometimes we just hang out, drink some coffee and tell stories.

My dogs (Pugs) are my "children". They do everything with me. Everything being...being out in the garage working on my motorcycle. Doing projects (wood working, etc.). They LOVE to practice with me! They're my ball retrievers. Please forgive me, but...remember the shirts and apparel that Titleist made a few years ago? I took a couple of my old ones and tailored them to fit my Pugs. They ,too, show their Titleist loyality.

Other things that I enjoy are landscaping, salt water reef aquariums, reading and all kinds of other stuff. The list just goes on and on.

    So, what about you?

My hobby is golf, playing, practicing, bending clubs, grips....

I used to ride, but my brother died and I didn't have anyone to ride with anymore. My cousin has come back to the area and he has a Sportster and a DynaGlide, But when we get together its for golf. My bike, 81 Honda 900, is about done, gonna have to start putting a lot of money into it. So I might just buy another, probably go about 650, tried a 250 and I won't go that small. I didn't ride this year, and only once last year. With a smaller bike I might do some more riding, 2-3hrs around the curves is fun(and the DynaGlide is better on the curves than the sportster), I don't care for going on trips like I used to do.

Every year about this time(just got started again) I get into working out and treadmill running, every year about March I quit. This year I kept going up into June, but my wife got sick and spent a few weeks in the hospital in Lexington, and a few more weeks laying around at home, then I was out of the routine. Gonna try and keep it going all year next year.

That's about it, work, sleep, golf, workout, tv, computer.

  3. John H,

The same goes for me, golf is my #1 hobby. It's my life. I do ALL of the work on my clubs (except for the special ferrules for my 660's...THANKS Titleist/Cathi!). I'm very picky about my stuff.

Have you seen the new CBR 250R? Whoa. For a 250...it's nice. There's some guys/gals at the track who have 250's and they can keep up with some of the 600's, etc.. They're so nimble. If you're doing track days, or have a lot of twisties to ride, or if you're looking for a nice ride/commuter, the new 250's aren't that bad. I do ride long distances fairly often. I actually rode 700+ miles (I took the long route!), straight through (other than getting gas, etc.), on my 600RR (my favorite in my collection). It really wasn't too bad. Other than a very sore chest, I felt fine. However, I like cruisers because of their comfort and ease. I'm a huge Honda fan (live right next to "Honda Town"), so, if you ever need any "help" with your 900, feel free to get a hold of me.

I wish your wife the best. Hopefully, she's feeling much better.

I rode a Ninja, not my style, I like riding upright.

This is close, mine is green, air suspension, hi-lo gearbox, windjammer, great for highway, not so good for curves. I think some softer tires might help, I'll have to get some before riding again.

    Wife is good now.

I have been thinking about turning the 900 into a 3 wheeler. But first I'll have to build a garage for doing the work. In about 2 years I'll be debt free,  and by then just 1 boy in college, and I should be able to do all the things I want.

Like most everyone on the site, Golf is the main focus for leisure time.

My other passions are college football and my kids athletic teams.  My daughter plays club soccer and it takes up most any free time I have between practice, league and tournies.

My son will be a freshman at OU next year and we will be going to Norman for even more events than football.

I went thru basketball thru hs for my oldest, soccer for several years for my youngest(I had to learn all about soccer, I never played), but they are both in college now, neither doing any extracurricular activities(organized anyway).

Just recently my oldest decided it would be best to live at home, my youngest never thought it was a good idea to live anywhere else.

And I am happy they are both living here.

I like to watch college football and basketball, don't care too much for pro.

Good for you, John. Glad to hear that your wife's doing better now. A garage/shop is a great thing. I wouldn't know what to do without mine.

Riding upright is definitely way more comfortable.

  8. Being from OH, I'm a Buckeye at heart. Being a Buckeye, you follow everything that has to do with Ohio State. Obviously, football's probably going to be #1, followed by basketball and so on. I'll follow my Buckeyes, but, that's about it.

It's always good to have family around, isn't it?!

For many years, I live and eat golf.  The beautiful lady I've been married to for just over 44 years has been extremely tolerant of my "hobby".  I'm on the course every chance I get, so don't really have the time for other hobbies nor the patience to learn something new at my old age!!!

Family is, certainly, an important part of life.  We're blessed with kids and grandkids that keep us involved.  Two daughters and their families live quite close and we see them often.  The son is with the U.S. Army, on a 3 to 4 years assignment at the Pentagon.  I'm at a daughter's home, now, getting instructions on how to keep 3 grandkids corralled this weekend.  Both daughters are flying to D.C. to surprise the son as an early Christmas present.

Other than that, my work is also my "hobby".  I've been blessed to work in a career that I enjoy.  If the Good Lord continues to bless my wife and I with our health, I'll probably work until I'm 70.  After many years, to still wake up each morning excited about going to work is a blessing in itself.  I work in a fairly high-pressure capacity, where I face confronatational issues on an almost daily basis.  To have different challenges tossed at you each day keeps it interesting.  Just always understand that any day you don't learn something is a lost day.  Never think you know too much about anything to not learn a new lesson.  Some lessons are exciting and motivating.  Some lessons can be painful and difficult.  What you learn from each makes you who you are.

Due to the difficult economic climate, many younger folks will have a challenge just making ends meet.  Careers may not be as stable as some of us have known.  Just remember to take time for family and yourself.  Take time to enjoy a hobby.  If you don't, some day you will look back and wonder why you did not spend more time with those you love and with a hobby you enjoy.  Looking back, it's too late.  You only get one chance at this life.  Enjoy it!!

  10. Golf, without any doubt whatsoever, is my #1 hobby.

It sounds like your son has his hands full...and, at the Pentagon...that's something to be proud of. I wish him the best. Married for 44 years...that too, is something to be proud of. Congrats on that.

Besides playing golf I like to watch it, workout, and travel (usually to warm places so I can play golf). It has been a little chilly here in Colorado, so I'm taking a couple days to go down to Scottsdale and play. I also like to go wild boar hunting down in Texas.

Without a doubt, my favorite leisure activity is simply being with my family.  We have an "almost 3 year old" and another one on the way.  I have a great wife who understands my obsession with golf and tolerates my 4-5 hour absences whenever possible.  Fortunately, our son loves to go to the driving range and putting green, so we are able to mix quality family time with some practice.   Hopefully, our next will follow in his footsteps!

I don't play near as much golf as I use to, but I do practice quite a bit. I usually practice while I'm helping either my son or daughter with their game. I also help other kids on the golf team as well as some friends. I do enjoy playing guitar, usually more during the winter months. I enjoy having the opportunity to accompany my wife when she sings at church.

I play racquetball quite a bit in the winter. The group that I play with many are golfers so we don't play much in the nicer months but when winter hits everyone is playing. Great sports if your looking to stay in shape over the winter: cheap to get started (about $30), you can practice alone if you have access to a court, and easy to find pick up games at clubs and gyms.

Congrats on the family! It's good to hear that your family enjoys doing what you love to do. Do you guys know if it's going to be another boy, or a girl?

When it's golf season in Minnesota, I'm playing just about any chance I get.  I love playing in scrambles or team events as well as having a little game of wolf/murder with golf pals.  In the evenings, sometimes I'll go out any play 3 or 4 balls and see how I can do in a "personal" best ball.  The golf course is my happy place.

When I'm not on the golf course I keep searching for my green thumb...when plants see me coming they try to look dead so I won't pick them and take them home!  I also love playing cards - I'm in a weekly Hold 'em card group and we have a great time - it's amazing how similar interests can introduce you to so many great people!  But I'm also a fan of smear & cribbage, too!

When it's not golf season (which is about 1/2 of my year), my other sport is curling.  No, not weight lifting! :-)  We have a great club in my hometown and I play in 2 leagues and coordinate several events throughout the season.  The "shuffleboard on ice" as some describe it, has some very similar qualities to golf, believe it or not.  We've really loved the attention the Winter Olympics has given the sport and it continues to grow all over the United States.  Throughout our curling season we will get groups of folks who have never played the sport want to come and try it - there's really nothing better watching people having fun trying it out.  But don't get me wrong...if I had to "choose" one sport or the other, it would be golf in a heartbeat!!

My least favorite pasttime?  Shoveling snow.

  17. Cathy, I have a "green thumb" as well and also love to play Hold Em'.

Curling seems pretty neat. I've played shuffleboard before and love it. Talk about competitive! Could you imagine in golf, if we always tried to knock our opponents ball out of the way?

Like everyone before me Golf is my favorite hobby. I also love college sports [LSU TIGERS] & pro football. I love music, & fishing in our lake.

We are a little too early on the gender (we will find out in about 3 weeks).  Very exciting time around here!

I bet. Definitely let us know if it's going to be on the P.G.A. Tour, or the L.P.G.A. Tour!

There's a large "pond" around the club that I go fishing in. When I was younger, before I started playing golf, fishing was my thing. My secret bait was french fries! Fish LOVE those things. With everything else that I do, I hardly go fishing any more. I'm in SC for the time being (ocean/beach side). I've never been deep sea fishing but would love to do so some time soon. A friend of mine down here told me that he caught a small shark the other day. I really don't know what I'd do if I caught one. Probably just cut my line or something.

I play guitar. I'm not great, but do it for fun and relaxation. Of course, I would love to have a guitar painted to look like a golf ball.

I always thought that it would be pretty neat to learn how to play acoustic.
