Most know that I have not played since Dec 14th and have been in physical therapy since January 9th for my back issues, twice a week. My sports clinical specialist has me now doing PT on Thursdays only, after my refresher golf lessons on Tuesdays. I started my refresher lessons thru the PGAHope program, this morning, which is on my home course. Today we worked on putting and pitching. Really felt good to lay a club in those fingers and actually do something with a golf ball. It is a seven week program, every Tuesday for two hours and hopefully I should be able to full swing with my driver by the fourth of fifth week and maybe play a round. I did cheat a little today and took five full shots with my 48* wedge. Felt good and my pro said he could see some improvement in my swing from the PT. The putting refresher was helpful. Actually learned something regarding better follow thru. Guess I need to do a bit of practicing before next Tuesday. Had to rest some due to us standing so long in the cold. Muscles tightened up.

Great to hear the good news sir. It's not easy getting back after a surgery or injury layoff. I've always enjoyed your post. Keep up the good work. Warm weather is just around the corner. Best of luck!
    Play Well,

My physical therapist is pleased. Wants me to film myself hitting the golf ball to show him. Told him I have issues taking selfies while hitting a ball. Being more flexible with minimum pain is a good feeling. Something I have not felt in about ten plus years. Maybe on to something good.

Hmmmm...... I believe if I were in Chuck's regular Saturday morning group I'd be wary of this tale of woe. Me smells a setup here!!

Actually had the Director of golf film my shots on Tuesday at the clinic, with my cell and my PT looked at my progress and he was very pleased. It felt so GOOD to actually hit a golf club again. Am not there yet, but the ball was on line and the pain was minimal. Probably hit about 40 balls with my nine iron at about 80%. Had a big smile on my face. Guess we will be moving to the mid irons on Tuesday and can swing a little more freely. Still need to work on the speed of my back swing. By the time we finish the lessons on April 25th, I definitely feel I will be ready for the course. Might even try to do a quick nine in between. My PT suggested even up my practice to about 80 balls. Hope I can take that. My flexibility is there, he is working on my endurance now and weights. As we move up in age, back issues hold most of us back. Did not realize how much and this PT thing has really opened my eyes. If the results are as good as I hope for this summer, maybe that handicap will drop back down to where it should be. I was four triple bogies was from it should be. Life is good and we need to enjoy it in our elder years.

Chuck, I share everyone's elation that you are able to swing a club again. While you undoubtedly have some goals, please remember to have fun, first, and especially as you start to regain some technique and trust. It is too easy to fall into the syndrome of wanting to do better immediately.

As I like to say, "The older I get, the better I was!"

Thanks for being a part of this community. Best of fortune with every round you play!
  16. Keep with it.
I have two blown disks in my lower back so I know where you are coming from.
    Time will heal all.

My advice is to do all that you can and don't get discouraged. Listen to your back only when it is insistant and take a day or two or even a week.

Don't let it stop you from doing what you love.

At our age golf is one of the sports we can enjoy and be so passionate about that it'll drive us to work so hard and long to be able to continue to play. Your documentation proves the point. If I were in your group I'd still be reluctant to play you for money. Think you're gonna be tough to beat.

Just an old country boy who is enjoying life in his old age. After growing up on a working farm, joining the military was a piece of cake. Knew how to say yes sir. Am now paying for for all that hard work. and golf was not something we had time for. My dad referred to it as cow pasture pool. Quoting one of my favorite singers, Toby Keith, from his song. "As Good As I Once Was". Lived single thru the 70's and kinda sums it all up.

"I used to be Hell on wheels
Back when I was younger man
Now my body says 'You can't do this boy'
But my pride says 'Oh, yes you can.'

I ain't as good as I once was
That's just the cold hard truth
I still throw a few back, talk a little smack
    When I'm feelin' bullet proof
So don't double dog dare me now
'Cause I'd have to call your bluff

I ain't as good as I once was
But I'm as good once as I ever was......."

............and you can take that to the bank. Life is too short not to enjoy it guys. I have lived a full one and am paying for it. I love birthdays and welcome them. Hate it when I hear guys my age say, I dread birthdays. At 76 HOPE I have 20 plus more, gives me the chance to finally shoot my age. Hakuna matata. Thanks for a the positive wishes. Really appreciate you guys.

It is great to see you are back to swinging again. I hope all goes well for you. Take it easy. I know it is hard to do after a layoff. It will not be long before you will be back to where you were or better. Play well in 2023.
