I'm about to award a contract for a new putting green in my back yard. Looks like the favorite with the pros (anyway based on endorsements) is southwest greens. SW uses a long grass fiber (plastic) and fills it 90% with sand. Of course that's what a real putting green is, an inch of sand with a thin layer of grass on top.
The other option seems to be a woven fabric, filled somewhat but less than the southwest option. The leading supplier of this green material is synlawn and it is endorsed by dave pelz.
My use is mostly putting but I do have room in my back yard for up to 30 yd pitches. I'll have a sand bunker nearby. My club greens stemps at about 12 but I'll probably make this about 10. My son will practice on it a lot and the tournaments he plays generally stemp slower.
Anybody have any experience with these two greens and can help me make a decision?
Thanks in advance,
Jerry
