Apologies if this has already been a thread but I didn't see anything in my brief search. I am looking for recommendations on a good mat for my indoor setup. I have done a lot of research and read a lot of reviews, but I think I have reached the point of paralysis through analysis. I don't really want to spend a small fortune, but will if I have to. My biggest needs are something that will absorb shock on iron shots. Whenever I am forced to hit off mats at the range due to weather, my left elbow is really sore from the repetitive shock. And as I will probably put a lot of use on it, I would like something that has the replaceable hitting zone. Any recommendations or experience with this is greatly appreciated.

  2. My experience with mats is that price is a reflection of the quality and thus materials that are part of the mat.

I have used this one without wrist issues from costco.

There is a huge range of mats and it mat-ters(haha) what's important to you.

If you want a TON of forgiveness and not really what hitting a ball while playing is like, then go with something like the Fiberbuilt grass…really easy on the forearms and fun to play but won't help your ball striking.

I've had a large number of mats in my simulator over the past 10+ years and my favorite is Truestrike with the gel underneath. The replacement hitting strip is easy to replace as well and the strike feels just like hitting off a fairway to me.

Not an inexpensive product, but if you change a few times you realize it would've made more sense to pony up from the start.

I've been using Bullseye Golf Soft Strike Hitting strip (www.bullseyegolfsims.com/.../) in my Fiberbuilt Combo Mat. I think it is a great compromise between realism and injury prevention. As Ben mentioned above, the FB Grass series is the go to for injury prevention. It is what came with my matt originally and some of my friends still prefer it.

Check a few of the golf simulator dedicated sites if your are researching. Here is a good one: golfsimulatorforum.com/.../mats-turf-and-flooring

    Good Luck.
