We have had several courses close down over the last 4-5 years. I can think of at least seven within an hour from me. Pretty sad. A couple of them I used to play all the time. Alot of good memories lost in what's an empty field or a new housing development now.

Spoke to a relative down in Myrtle Beach. He said there used to be 130+ courses now they’re down to 72? All housing developments and prices to play are all going up

Always sad that existing courses go under. Even with more rounds, the lower priced courses become better investments as condos. To update the facilities, including drainage, irrigation, and rebuilding bunkers takes a lot of $$$, far above current profitability to pay.

Destination courses generate enough cash flow for maintenance but come at a higher fee. I wonder if golf will become ever more elite with fewer municipal and low end public courses available.

I played a Donald Ross course shortly after Katrina in Biloxi. It was home to The Southern Open in the 40’s and 50’s with players like Snead, et. al. The clubhouse was still a single wide with plans to build a new clubhouse. Was hoping to get back to after the course was upgraded. Sadly, I can only rent a condo there now. Asheville Municipal is another Donald Ross design. Fortunately, it is being refurbished that includes the City sees as a value.
