Last Thursday I get out for my first hcp round, 86 esc 85, esc is embarrassing, this time of year I really don't mind 86, I would like it to be better. Not making real good contact, except with my 906f2 and 2 585.h's. Irons just aren't doing well. Got a new putter, and my putting hasn't been very good either.

Thursday night start midnights, get off Friday morning go to the golf course, normally I don't count a round after midnight shift but its the first and I'm feeling good. 85 no esc, still not hitting my irons, still not putting, still likin them 585's.

Monday, not for score(thank God), this is after my 4th midnight, 98 I didn't check for esc ;). Shanks like you wouldn't believe, 3w getting a little wild, driver gone, still liking them 585's, putting still not good. But my grip finally felt good, I just couldn't hit the ball.

Tuesday still not for score, 89 getting better but thats just my management of poor play. Still got the shanks, 3 wood was a little better, driver got one chance and failed. Putter, about hole 15 I figured out how use this putter, now its just get the feel for distance.

Wednesday still not for score, gotta hurry to get done before the rain. Switched out driver to 983k steel shaft, 904f steel shaft.

Hole 1 3w attempted draw, normally if I try to hit this club straight my mistakes are a little tail left to a normal draw, when hitting a draw my mistakes are a bigger draw to a massive hook, this time it went straight. Hit a few more(nobody else on the course) none good. Went and found the first ball, it made it thru the woods and was laying there next to the cart path about 130 to the front. Hit 8i short and tailing off right.

So I'm standing there trying to figure this out, discovered I'm hunched over a bit, flexed my knees a little more and the club grounds level and I'm not hunched over.

Hole 2 driver missed a little right, 5i addressed, hunched over, backed off, addressed again with knees flexed, dead straight pushed a little right. Stood there trying to figure it out, I'm playing the ball back too far and trying to hit the ball straight instead of hitting a draw with ball back that far. So I drop a ball, address hunch over, back off, address again with knees flexed ball about 3 inches forward, POW dead straight on the green, go up chip and putt for a par.

Hole 6 I drop a ball on the tee box, grab my 17* 585.h address the ball, knees barely flexed, not hunched over and club grounds perfectly. And I have automatically addressed with the ball forward. I start thinking, this is the way I set up when playing with my blades.

No I'm not going back to the blades, I do hit them farther but on a full swing not as straight, in fact rarely straight, I always curve them one way or the other, so I always set up to curve them one way or the other, I have started liking straight.

So for the round, a total of 4 fairways(only one tee shot cost me a stroke, most were close), 5 GIR this ain't good, no doubles or worse, a total of 27 putts, the putts missed were because I didn't read it correctly. 78 39-39

Tonight is last midnights, gonna be cold in the morning, guess I'll get a little sleep. Then I got to pick up the wife(back from her vacation, lounging around in sunny California)

Friday I'll be back to playing for score(weather permitting), now all I got to do is remember ball forward, bend knees a little more, and remember the set up for this putter stroke, no problem.

Friday weather wasn't permitting, but we went anyway, went to a little 9 hole course I've played before, my memory of the course isn't good.

1 Driver straight with a little tail to the right(that is a good thing) but comes up a little short so I'm on the side of the hill about 100y out. PW on the green a little long and left, 3 putt, this is a really nice green, ball rolling good, bad miss read and poor judge of speed on the first putt, second putt about an inch short.

2 Driver long and right(straight attempted a draw) about 170 behind a bush. 4i opened around and over the bush on the green hole high. Downhill putt so I was a little scared to hit it hard enough after blowing by the hole on 1, about 5ft low from the hole, easy 2 putt.

3 6i, didn't bend my knees, hunched over, blade short, ended with a double.

4 3w draw perfect, 7i a little long on the green, perfect putt.

5 Driver pushed, couldn't tell how far, 5i on the green about 15ft short of hole(couldn't see until we got to the green), 2 putt.

    6 5i hole high, 1 putt.

7 21h, don't know what my mistake was, way short and left, tree hooked. 21h tried to hook around tree went straight 15y right of green. PW opened to go over tree, hunched over and hit it right(not a shank but close) another double.

8 Driver right again, about 200 tried smooth swing with 3w, big hook, 4i chip about 50y, 3putt.

9 Driver played a fade 140y center fairway on the flat, just as planned, 8i just short of green, putter chip, 1 putt.

For the most part I'm hitting my irons pretty darn straight. I'm hitting my Driver good enough, and my putter is coming around nicely.

I'm off next week, hopefully the weather will be better. Gotta get off this hunching over with my irons.

Played today, it was supposed to be cooler than it was, because of the cold I wasn't going to play for score, plan was to start 12:30-1:00. !0:30 it was 42*, so I thought I'll go early and hit the range(range is finally open) and play for score. Got to the course and they were aerating the greens on the front, I decided not for score.

    Started on the back

10 3w missed right in the trees, small hole and low 5i hit green then bounced in bunker, pw to 2ft, putt

11 Driver down the middle, 3w right in the trees, pw on green, 2 putt

    12 8i on green 2 putt

13(the dreaded 13) Driver middle, 7i on green, 2 putt

14 3w fairway, 6i bounced off the back, 60*, tap in

15 17*h right side, 8i bounced off the back, pw too strong, 2 putt first bogey

16 5i thin short, pw about 10ft, 2 putt bogey

    17 17* left side, 6i short, pw 2ft, putt

18 driver wide right, 3w not so good, 8i thin in bunker, 60* short, 60* on green, putt bogey

    1 17* thin bad, 21* fairway, 9i on green, 2 putt bogey

2 Driver right, 21* in greenside trees, here is where stupidity and poor execution of stupid shots takes over, +4 8

3 Driver left rough ok, 3w way right, pw short, poor chip, 2 putt bogey

4 4i short, 60* long, chip short, 2 putt double

5 Driver right side ok, 3w right side, PW big pull, 60* to green, 1 putt

6 17* 130y middle, 8i landed front of green went off back, putter chip, putt

7 17* thin, 17* short, pw on green, 1 putt

8 7i short, 60* long, putter chip about 6 ft past, 2 putt double

9 Driver middle 130, 8i front of green, 3 putt.

Sure freshly aerated greens cost me a couple of strokes(8 and 9), on 8 its still my fault, if I had picked the ball up and looked I would have seen the bad spot. For the most part there was nothing wrong with the performance of the greens, the crew did an excellent job making the greens playable. I think when they have healed we will have some very nice greens, now if we can get some people to fix their ball marks. BTW there is a course near Cinci, Friendly Meadows, cheap, clubhouse is a barn, they do have working toilets in an outbuilding, the course has been in perfect condition everytime I've played it, the golfers there take care of the course the way they should.

I'm hitting my driver well, I definitely used the wrong 3w, and then trying to get more out of my 17*h cost me, I have put the correct 3w back in the bag.

I started this yesterday, ate supper, sat in the snuggler with my wife, then went to bed, so now I'm finishing this morning.

I'm hitting my irons very straight and at the target, gotta work on distance control, this is new to me normally distance is good direction needs work.

They will probably aerate the back 9 today, I'll wait and see how they are before I decide if todays rnd is for score. I expect they will be good. We're still on 90* so LCP is still in effect, yesterday there were only a few times there was mud on my ball, probably less today. And of course the rain is supposed to start back Wednesday.

? you have a lot of rounds that say "Not for score" ? According to the handicap rules you have to post all your scores even if you don't finish all 18 holes. 9 hole rounds should  be posted as well ???

You don't post practice rounds, hitting more than one shot even though the first is used, not following the principles of the rules

You don't post when you are trying to do things you normally wouldn't do, you aren't trying for the best possible score

If its cold to the point where I'm wearing 3 long sleeve shirts, its a practice round

When I'm on midnights, its a practice round. Even though I did post 1 this year while on midnights. If I was to score the best I could when on midnights then I would sleep first and play later, but that isn't good for my abilities at work.

Now if I were to post these scores, when the weather is better and hcp play starts, I'd be called a cheater and rightfully so, that ain't gonna happen.

Cold again Friday morning, sun shining, relative humidity up to 56%(it's been a little warmer with rh at 16%) feels pretty good. Greens are still sand covered, and of course this round isn't for score.

1 3w middle 160y, 5i hit center of green off the back, chip 2 putt bogey

2 Driver big slice(hit a few more to get straightened out), tried the miracle shot, failed, in the greenside trees, pw thru little hole dropped in the bunker, pw out on and close 1 putt bogey.

    Now it gets boring

3 Driver left rough(ok), 3w to 40y, pw land short of hole bounce off back, putter chip, putt par.

4 5i land about 3ft on the green bounce off the back, chip, putt par

5 Driver line drive down left side then draw into the woods(dogleg left) almost makes it thru the woods, 8i to 200y, 17* short of green(hole in front), putter chip putt par.

6 17* right rough 140y, 7i land on front ball stays on, 2 putt par

7  driver right rough(tree hooked) 130y, 7i attempted to go around tree hit it straight about 10y off green, chip, putt par

    8 7i left side 2 putt par

9 Driver middle 165y uphill lie into pretty good wind, 4i about 10y short of green, pitch, putt par.

10 17* middle 120y, 9i fat about 20y off green(hit a couple more and figured out I started hunching over again), pitch 2 putt bogey.

11 Driver middle, 17* 60y, pw ball stayed on the green, 2 putt par

12 8i short, pitch putt par

13 Dreaded 13, Driver left side, 6 iron to about 4 ft, putt birdie

14 Dogleg left, no bad hole placements, big square green, birdied this hole more than any other, 17* fairway 150y, 6i over the green into the woods, whack pw to the front, 3 putt double

15 17* fairway 150, 7i land on front and stays on, 2 putt par

16 5i missed right, pitch putt par

17 17* right hit cart path bounces to the flattest place on the course, 8i green about 15ft past hole, 2 putt par

18 Driver wide right, 3w fairway 40y, pw to about 20ft, 1 putt birdie.

75 38-37. The greens are still putting pretty good, but there are a few places where the sand is working in and the aeration holes are showing thru and they do adjust your putt. They're preparing these greens for a Ky Am Qualifier, I bet they will be hard, might not be able to stop the ball on the green when they are healed.

My hopes of senior am play has been postponed, I checked the KGA and I have to be 55 instead of 50, I guess they want the 50yo pros to have an advantage over any ams that qualify for the big tournaments.

Thats ok, gives me 5 more years of practice, and next year I will most likely be able to start playing weekends too.

Oh boy, 6am 67*. Supposed to go down to 61* by 9am then start back up. 10am turns to windy, sometime today winds 24mph.

One day it was supposed to be 13mph winds and it was hard to stand straight.

If they say the greens are in good enough condition I'll be playing for score today, starting at 8:30, the wind shouldn't be too bad for most of the round. Of course it might be that the sand has worked its way down and now you can stop the ball on the green but the aeration holes are now a factor, there was a couple putts last time that were effected by them.

This is much more like it, 60-70*, greens hold the ball even though they are a bit tough to putt.

Bumps weren't too bad(except hole 9 managed a 3 putt, had to be the greens fault).

Wind was whipping around wildly, 1 way then another, different directions on the same hole, and my favorite was when it would stop just as you hit

81 41-40 28 putts could have been less of course if I hit more greens it probably would have been more, this is a 8.9 round.

    Fairways 3, greens 5, putts 28, 1 birdie(par 5), 2 doubles holes 7 and 9

Hole 5 par 5 the wind was with me drive fairway 229 to the front, hole in front, 17* about 10ft short of green(colder weather 190 was max with this club) 60* to 2ft

7 was fun, drive left trees, choked down punch 6i to 60y, pulled pw to bunker, out and 2 putt(first putt stopped in aeration hole about 1/2in from hole)

Hole 9 was horrible, drive short and left rough, 5i hole high right of green, then a pitch that barely made it on the green, now putting across the slope the ball bounced around like a pinball(aeration holes), up the slope wasn't as bad and I felt like I should have made the 2nd putt.
