I am a caddy at my local country club and I love it. I got caddy of the year last year and I get to play every Monday. I am really interested to know how I can be a better caddy. If any of you ever take a caddy, what are a few things you would like them to do that caddy's aren't expected to do or what are some things you would like them not to do. Any feedback would be very apriciated!!

    Hi Owen,

In the country I live in, it is very common for golfers over here to use caddies when they play. Whether they are walking, or even using buggies, caddies will be used. I have been playing this game for nearly 30 years now and have had my share of good and bad caddies.

As a single handicapper, I only expect my caddies to be able to read the line of a putt, clean my clubs and golf ball properly. Thats it. I dont like caddies who are talkative. The worst are the ones who try to act smart by giving me swing analysis without me asking for it.

So Owen, my advice is just keep it simple. Dont try to impress your man by how much you know about the golf swing. You impress him by how well you look after his bag. Dont try to strike a conversation unless your man starts first.

I guess thats about it and all the best to you.

I suppose there's more I could say, but I better keep this a decent length.

I have been a caddy for 11 years. I caddied in the 2008 US Am Public Links and at the 2010 US AM. Majority of the player I have caddied for appreciate my ball finding and fallowing capabilities. Just another perk a caddy can have to help his or her golfer.

I was a caddy at a local private club for 5 years. The best advice I can give you is make sure you find the ball, and be polite with the flagstick. When I say be polite, watch your shadow, hold the flag so it does not fly around, don't swing it around, etc.
As for talking, be positive about the shot when it is good, AND never say, "I told you you should not have hit that club!"

Having caddied for 10 years. The most important thing that you can know, is course knowledge. Knowing where out of bounds markers are, blind shots your player my face, various pin placements and safe plays into greens and alternative ways to play a hole can greatly help your player. The most important thing is to understand your player's capabilities so that you can help them with their round. Each golfer is different in how they play and how they act on the course. Understand this and you can make their round more enjoyable and your job easier.

  11. I really don't expect my caddy to do anything. If he gives me his input on things, talks to me about life...whatever...I'M the one responsible for making a shot. I can clean my own clubs and golf balls. He doesn't have to do that. I'm grateful that he carries my Staff bag 18+ holes. Depening on the tournament, if I hit a shot, and make a divot, God bless me with 2 legs and a heartbeat, I can go get the divot and repair/replace, it, myself.

I  haven't used a caddy yet but, I would like to play a nice course someday and have a caddy just for the fun of it.
