just started playing again after about a 10 month break due to being out of work and no cash..joys of living in lreland..i used to play with t---------e irons, putters, woods, drivers and burner balls..sold these last year...i have just bought a set of ap2 irons..3 to a p wedge..dynamic r300  shafts as well..can anyone on here explain in basic english why is it so hard to hit a good 3 iron straight where a good 4 iron seems to be easier..i have a 23 handicap and  i also seem to have trouble with woods and hybrids from from the fairways..i find irons really easy to use from all areas of the course..i use a 3 year old 907 d1 driver which i seem to get average drives using this..any ideas on this or other theories

All things being equal, it's the loft of the 3 iron that may make it less playable.

If you are a better iron player than a driving player (driver/3wood/hyb) we tend to see players a little steeper coming into impact.  The driving swing and iron swing are very different.

It's possible that you may have the wrong metals, or it's possible that you just need to sweep them off the turf better.  Feeling like you stay behind the ball and sweeping shots off a tee can help.

Hope this provides a little clarity.  RC

the irons are only 4 days old...i only used them for 18 holes so more practice should be needed..just dont seem to like graphite shafted clubs at the moment..practice with my ap2 irons should make me better hopefully..i have had cheap/expensive woods and hybrids in the past and i still seem to have troubles with them
