hit the low and let the ball roll up to the green. stay out of the sand traps.
  2. I don't think I'd change much in my bag other than staying away from high wedge shots. My natural ball flight tends to be on the low side anyway so that would be a positive. I would also be hitting lots of bump and runs near the green....or putting instead if possible.

Interesting to read the many responses on here. Thanks fellow TT members!
  3. I cannot hit a low ball flight so I would grab some Dark Island beers and some Pro V1's and enjoy the ride.

I was fortunate to get to play 10 rounds in Scotland last month playing some great links tracks (Old Course, Carnoustie..). Got to learn how to putt from 30-50 yards off the green but wish I had practiced with my hybrid. More work to be done LOL.

Every time I play in the rain and/or wind I crank down my driver to 8.5° and I shorten as well as tighten up my swing so that all my shots are controlled with a lowered trajectory. I find when I do this I play a more conservative and consistent game. Good luck to everyone!
  6. Keep it low, play % MORE OPEN SIDE OF HOLE, MAKE GOOD CHOICES.

Just got back from Ireland last week and did tweak my clubs for the trip. Took a hybrid out added a long iron. Have to play the ball close to the ground as the Pro at Waterville GC told us. Leave the flop shot at home and be prepared to putt from almost anywhere!!! Pic number 1 at Doonbeg!!!

  8. I have a titleist two iron that I extended to hit as a driving iron. It would be perfect for the first holes at Troon to be under the wind and stay short of the bunkers.
  9. Drop the 60 and the hybrid and add 2 and 3 iron

I would throw a 2 iron in the bag. I'd try to avoid all the bunkers. As the saying goes "when it's breezy swing easy".

I would practice my knockdown shot for sure and also get used to putting from 50 yards off the green. Short game is definitely the key on a course like this.
  12. I would arrive one week earlier and practice getting out of deep bunkers. Carry an extra sturdy Titelist umbrella, and drive for accuracy not distance. Carry ski type handwarmers and hunting warmers that we use up north. Have fun with the course and stay calm.

Just got back from playing some Links Golf in Ireland. Took a hybrid out put the long iron back in. As the Pro at Waterville told us keep the ball on the ground if you want to score and leave the flop shot at home!

The knockdown would have to get better in my game. Less driver and more hibrid.

    Cochrane,

Work on the low ball flight. Possibly put heavier shafts in the MBs for low workability
  16. Grow a beard and play like beef!

Full bag would def make the trip. May change slightly daily - depending on weather. Driver would likely sit out in favour of a 2i. Easier for me to hit draws with 2/3i or 3 and work against the L:R wind. Driver could flare and end up in England. Would pull 4i and add a 58K to the 46/50/54 kit as well. Great for pinching chips and need the extra loft for bunkers (if I should go there. Lol). Would also look at adding weight to putter to increSe mass and help get the ball rolling without feeling like I'm hitting driver on the greens. Going from 12/13 to sub 10 is major adjustment to feel. Would also be layering up to stay and keep warmth as constant as possible - with a bad back getting tight can happen quickly and that would be a potential disaster. Would keep my ProV1x in play
  18. Only answer needed... Play the "Justin Leonard Texas Knockdown Shot"

Leave the driver in my bag and hit everything low

Windy conditions wouldn't be a big deal. I would need to practice my short game off the tight lies surrounding those greens.
