I would add an extra wedge or two. No way I am getting to the greens in regulation so the short game would be vital.
  2. Awesome idea topic for contest!!!!

To tweak my bag for this style of golf is sometimes easier said than done, most likely I would have a couple different set ups depending on the general weather forecast for the week ( hard fast and baked out or wet cool and slower ).

For the more traditional ground game type open conditions I would do the following : I would keep my driver the same (titleist 9.5 degree) but I would have a strong 3 wood (13.5 degree) in my bag because it's easy to shape higher left to right to land softer downwind to hold dry fairways and my bread and butter shot with it would be a punch low draw into the wind and crosswinds. I would carry a 2 iron likely my old 690mb and keep the rest of my bag pretty standard except for less bounce of my 3 wedges ( 48,54,60). When it's baked out take what the course gives from the tee and into the green. Mistakes are amplified in these conditions.

In wet and windy I would keep my bag mostly my stock set up, and just play conservative and take what the course gives from the tee and be aggressive into greens

The big thing here is I would try my best to be patient and take what the course gives me. Ego has no place in the open, today you may hit a wedge from 175 and tomorrow you may be hitting a 4 iron. That's open golf , You do beat the course you listen to it.

Oh and oh course my ball would be as always the 2015 PRO V1x

    Awesome idea for contest

I've played a fair bit of links golf and know what to expect. I would probably lower the loft on my 915 D3 back to 9.5 degrees and consider changing my two hybrids (3&4) back to irons which tend to fly much lower. I like to control my ball flight even downwind (old school Paul Azinger golf!) and like to play the ball down as much as possible.

I would definitely keep the driver in the bag, change up my mentality and look to keep the ball playable as opposed to maximum distance.
In keeping with that mentality, I would also keep approach shots low, as well as apply more of a bump-and-run philosophy as opposed to flop shots.
  5. I would play my T-MB 3 iron off the tee more often and value accuracy over distance.

Utiliser les coups roulés dès que possible. Être imaginatif dans l'utilisation des bâtons. Garder l'élan simple.
  7. I would play my T-MB 3 off the tee more often and value accuracy over distance.

Would drop my 60 degree Vokey wedge and replace with a 2 iron and change my driver to an 8.5 degree loft from my present 12.5 degree driver.

I wouldn't change too much except tee the ball up lower. I love my putter and can see me using that a lot more around the greens vs. chipping. Would need to practice my pot bunker play. It would be awesome. Good luck to all #teamtitleist

I would have to work on hitting my ball lower to be better suited to the Open conditions. I would also have to hit more bump and run shots than I normally do. I would not make any changes to the clubs I normally carry in my bag.

Because of the strong winds I would need to keep the ball flight lower, & have the ball fall before the green & let it roll up to the green.
  12. I would play my ball back in my stance to keep it lower into the wind conditions. When putting I would stroke the ball firmer to prevent ball drift from the wind.

Hey there!!! No changes made to my equipment but some tweaks to ball position to try and keep it as low as possible into the wind and try and launch it high on holes playing down wind. I would also probably add a wire to my hat to keep it on my head!!!

First thing I would do is probably drop the 3 wood in favor of a 2 Iron, then I would work on hitting more punch shots and using the roll out of the fairway. Of course i'd be packing my rain gear!

Lastly I would work on putting from everywhere, IE fairways, long putts over 50 feet.

Thanks again Titleist Canada for another amazing contest!

Hopefully one day I can get the opportunity to put these things to the test!

I will put around the green instead of chipping...use the ground and not fly the ball against or with the wind.

THE #1 BALL AT THE 145TH OPEN AND SINCE RECORDS HAVE BEEN KEPT.

Competing at Royal Troon, with the game’s oldest major on the line, players will have to contend with wind, weather and the famed “Postage Stamp” hole which demands the ultimate in precise distance control.

We're back with another Major Contest this week in celebration of 145th Open Championship!

    Here's how to enter...

By reply to this thread, let us know how you would change your game (if at all) to adapt to The Open Championship's links style layout and conditions.
    ex.,

Would you change out or tweak the specs on any of the clubs in your current bag?
Would you adjust your swing or general strategy to better suit the firm and windy conditions?

I would use a 3 wood off the tees and play a more low chipping game to the greens

Wow, what would I do.......probably add a 3 wood to my line up and get a hold of the knock down shot. Can't wait to watch The Open!

I would a driving iron and good rain suit

Definitely I'd take the lob wedge out of the bag. I'd probably tune up on putting with the hybrid - good from 100yds and in.

With the windy conditions I would have to adjuSt my swing to accommodate a low trajectory flight on my shots. The key would be being able to reduce the effects of the wind. I would also concentrate on my short game as greens may be not too receptive and therefore would need to work on my scrambling ability.
