  1. I was in a tournament at CFB Trenton where on a short par 4 I hit a hook off the tee into the fescue on the left. Like Erin Hills it grow quite long(up to waist) where I could barely see the ball. With lob wedge in had I was only able to hit the ball with a full swing about 10 yards. Thank god I hit it towards the fairway and not the hole. I now aim for the trap. Safer. Hahahah
  2. Large shirt with pro vx sorry missed it on post.
  3. I remember playing at ottercreek golf club when I was younger and the fescue always getting the best of me. Never could break 100 swearing I'd never come back. Got fitted at titleist Canada for all my clubs 2 years ago, went back and shot an 80 my best round there and I was only in the fescue a few times. Large shirt and pro v1 if I'm lucky enough to be chosen.
  4. Saturday morning. You've had your power breakfast. You've 'stretched' (well a couple 'martini glass' stretches). You've hit the range and drilled a couple dozen balls down it. Some straight, some, not so much. You think that 'fade' (nee banana slice) might be creeping back into your game again. Your foursome heads the first tee of the local Muni course.

The tradition tee spin, initiated by your buddy, lands on the tightly mowed tee box, and points at you. You have the honours. You stride to the tee marker, set your ball up behind it, play for your fade, and take your well honed hack at the ball. You follow through in time to see a low altitude missile going LEFT!!!! into the rough. Waaayyyy into the rough. The comedian in the group says his dog couldn't find that ball if it were wrapped in bacon.

Great. The rough. Not just the first cut. Not the charitably described 'secondary' rough. The 'spinach'. The 'cabbage'. The place where your GPS watch says it 'can't find a signal' from.

The place where in the search for your ball, you can find the ancient names of golf buried in the grasses of time. Where cracked 'Canada Cup' and 'Slazenger' balls have sat for decades, awaiting eventual discovery. The place where the mob could have actually dumped Jimmy Hoffa, and he'd still be there.

You make the trek back to your bag, leaving your hat over the ball in order to find it again. Gathering up a long iron, a hybrid, and a wedge, you trudge back into the tangle.

Decision time. Make the 'smart' shot and try to wedge it back to the fairway? The medium percentage shot and try and get some distance with a hybrid? The 'hero' shot with a 3 or 4 iron and make up the distance you lost on the tee? While your brain runs through the probabilities for success, another (much quieter) part of your brain says "WHYYYYY are you even thinking about a shot OTHER THAN A WEDGE YOU IDIOT!" You immediately tell that part of your brain to be quiet, it's interrupting your train of thought.

The 3 iron of course is the play. You KNOW that you will be hitting a low running shot that will follow the contours of the fairway, and collect the 200 yards you were robbed of, and you'll have a great chance of saving par on that opening par 5.

You see your line. Plant your feet. Death grip the club. Back the club goes, and in a Hell bent explosion of knees, hips, torso, arms, and finally club head, you slash through the grass and on follow through see half a hay bale of organic materials glued to the hosel of your club. Your majestic high finish, for all the world to appreciate is a testament to the nine instructors you've had over the 40 years you've been playing the game. Your brain, now registering the shot, says it must have been 'AWESOME!' since you didn't even feel the ball come off the club face.

Of course as you strain to see your ball running out down the fairway, you realize no one else is looking that way, but has turned to inform you that no one saw it come out.

There. Mocking you. At your feet. Lay the object of what will now be your third shot. Laying in a freshly carved swath, that your WEDGE now gently glides through, and gets you back to the fairway, and your double bogey.

Yes, the rough has defeated me this time. But I vow NEVER to go there again, knowing it's a hollow promise, made only to offer momentary comfort, and to offer the eternal hope for the 'clean' round we all seek every time we tee the ball up.
  5. Golf is a great game to play but after many days of rain and the rough is long, sometimes making shots out works just fine, most of the time I'm just advancing it down the fairway, as for fescue only played I course at it was way too tough to play out of, I just dropped and keep going.
    My shirt size is 3xl

My favorite ball is the X. It has a nice high flight and great spin. I also play all Titleist clubs and have a Titleist light weight cart bag. The TT tag would look great on it. My shirt size is large and I always wear my Titleist hat. Size m-l.

Playing at a local course known for its deep fescue I found myself about forty yards from the green in the "hay". One mighty hack and the ball came out dead left, hit a tree and bounded on the green for a tap in birdie. Never could understand what is so tough about fescue. All you have to do is play the angles...lol. Shirt size XL and ball V.

I tried to hack one out of the thick stuff years ago. Lost the ball in even thicker stuff, dislocated my left shoulder, and had to walk in. I had to shut it down for a month, I sure hope we don't see that this week.
An XL shirt and V1X would be great.

i had the opportunity last week to play Trump Ferry Point in New York. New York has had lots of rain so the fescue was pretty high already and im not used to playing in it.
Our starter told us to do ourselves a favour, if we found our ball to take a stroke and drop it outside the fescue

I did try to hit one and it almost broke my wrist and went 5ft up and 2 ft forward.

for the rest of the round, my friend and i gave each other a free drop out of the fescue and enjoyed the rest of the round.

very, very difficult! but it was a beautiful day. love him or hate him, Trump has nice golf courses

Shirt is a 2xl and i'd love to hit the prov1X

Playing the par 3, 3rd hole at Rebel Creek. Hooked my tee shot left of the traps. Found my ball in the long stuff. Of course thinking I could flop it out, over the trap and onto the green. Nope. 1st shot went about a foot, 2nd shot into the trap, next shot onto the green and added 2 putts for a 6. Bright side, I made a decent shot out of the sand! Size: XL, Ball: ProV1

Piped one of the nicest drives I had ever on #3 at my home course. As it's still climbing, heading over a tree at the dogleg, it hits a goose that had turned into the flight of the ball. The goose falls out of the air and my ball comes back, into the fescue, in front of the tree. I went over to check on the goose and it got up and hissed at me before flying away. Took me 2 strokes get out of the fescue and I cursed that goose to a double.

Found a snake in the fescue while searching for my ProV1 one time..... abandoned the ball and may have taken a "generous" drop on the opposite side of the fairway. Got up and down from that drop!

    Large Tshirt, ProV1x!!
    Go speith.

We're back with another Major Contest to celebrate the seasons second Major!

In the spirit of the fescue at Erin Hills, share a story below with a past  run in you may have had with some thick rough or fescue.  Did you pull off the shot or did it get the best of you?

We'll randomly draw 3 winners on Monday, June 19th, 2017 from the comments posted to this thread.  Prize pack details are in the image below. Canadian Residents only please!

Be sure to include your shirt size and preference between V or X in your post.

Enjoy the golf this week and good luck!

Feeling incredibly fortunate to locate my ball in particularly thick fescue, decided to take a mighty lash to extract, never knowing the small rock immediately ahead existed. Was never able to locate the png wedge head!
Size Large and ProV X. Thank you.

I have just finished a round this morning. My Pro V 1 performed excellently. I hope the many players using this ball at the US Open have as much success as I had.
