Hello all! I'm looking for some insight on ball selection from anyone or a member of titleist. Does anyone know what an amateur with around a 10 handicap getting 225+ off the tee should be using for a golf ball between the V1 and V1x. Thank you for your insight.

    Nate,

I play the Pro V1x and love it, but that doesn't mean it's the best ball for you.  Either the Pro V1 or Pro V1x is a good choice, but the question is which will perform the best for you.  My advice is to purchase a sleeve of each and play rounds with both to see which ball fits your game the best (all aspects of your game).

Best of luck determining which is best for you,

    Barry

  3. Dear Nate,

Both are great balls but it comes down to personal preferences. Prov1 in a nutshell is meant for a soft feel which will help your short game. While the Prov1x is meant to hit farther off the tee. It sounds like you could use more distance off the tee so I would suggest the Prov1x for you.

    Hi Nate,

    Thanks for the post.

When it comes to selecting the right ball, you have to consider every shot. If you are looking for a softer feeling golf ball with a little more spin, I would suggest the Pro V1. If you would like a little less spin off the tee, the Pro V1x might be a better option. The only way to know for sure is to take both golf balls and do an on course comparison. Determine which ball gives you the best combination of feel and control.

    Hope this helps.

Nate, I, as you, have jumped between prov1 and prov1x. I score about the same (80 years old, 13.0 index, manage to shoot my age about once a month..this for reference). I do find prov1 will back up more, which is not always desirable for me, prov1X feels a bit harder. Maybe get a yard or two more distance off "Sunday punch" drives with prov1x,hard to tell for sure. Hi Nate,

I have played both but use the V1x. I hit the ball 280 with a fairly high ball flight. The Pro V is designed to spin more and my ball flight off the tee climbs higher. The V1x has a less ball spin off the face of the driver. It still spins enough around the green too. If you would like to have a higher ball flight the Pro V might be good for you. Like some others have said try a sleeve of both and see what you like or try to find a Titleist ball fitting session and they will put you on the monitor.

  7. Try to find out where a golf ball fitting is happening in your region this fall....it was a great complimentary service at my course this year...gave me lots of insights that confirmed what the folks at the Titleist Test Facility in Oceanside told me last fall...

    Good Luck!

I switched to the PRO V1 and Absolutely am impressed with the feel this ball gives me around the green.  I added about 40 to 50 yrds distance on my drives as well.

"I added about 40 to 50 yrds distance on my drives as well."

    Sure you did. hahahahha

  10. You are absolutely dreaming if you think that changing a ball will add 40-50 more yards off the tee.

THE PROV1X SHOULD GIVE YOU MORE DISTANCE, ALL THINGS CONSIDERED

I actually have both in my bag. I play the ProV1 on hard/fast conditions and the ProV1X on wet/soft conditions. I hit the ball only slightly farther than you, but my short game is my best asset There may be longer balls out there for my swing speed, but I want to know how the ball is going to behave on a 30yd. chip over a bunker. Like has been already stated, try both and see which behaves the best for you.

Nate, I`m about the same handicap and I`ve used both with good success. I prefer the short game edge that the ProV1 gives me, but as most have advised you, it`s a personal preference thing. Try both, see which gives you the most help in your game. Good luck! --ChasB

  16. Nate,

First of of all, if you only get 225 off the tee your not a 10 handicap. You probably won't be able to tell the difference between the different types.

    Keep playing!

I hit 225 and I'm a 7 and can tell the difference in the balls. I am a great iron player and the ball makes a difference.

  18. Really depends on what kind of spin you get off of the club. If you fade or slice the ball you should probably go with the V1x. You will sacrifice a little stopping power around the greens but you will hit more fairways. You say you get 225+ off the tee, so if you are slicing or hooking you might want to try the Velocity. Bet you will hit it 240 dead straight most of the time. Longer with the irons but will still hold the greens fairly well.

  19. I would suggest the ProV1x. Less spin off the driver and long irons, but great spin with wedges and short irons. The ProV1x works great for me and I only hit it about 240-50 off the tee. Try them both and let your approach shots decide for you. Good luck.
  20. Nate your game sounds similar to mine. Both balls are good but pro v1x with less spin off the driver face means I don't get as big of a fade or occasional slice. The bit of extra distance is a plus and the ball still reacts nicely on feel shots around the green and putts. Try both either way you are picking a winner

Nate, The best way to determine which is best for you is around the green, Find which ball get the reaction off the shot you hit. I fluctuate between a 4&6 hcp through out the year and find that a great short game is what separates champions.

I would suggest you find a facility with a launch monitor.  Hit several shots with each ball.  The tech will be able to tell you which ball produces statistically more optimal spin rates, smash factor, launch angle, etc. on wedges, mid irons, woods.  Then go play with both to see which you prefer.  I have found that I tend to score slightly better, on average, with the pro-v1x.  I play either day-to-day, but in tournaments I load the x.

    Good luck.

  23. I play the "softer" V1 in the winter, the V1x in the summer.

Hello all, I like the PROV1x.  I have been playing it for a few years and nothing else really compares with it! Good Luck in your quest. Like others have said go out and try both and see which one is best for you....

  25. Nate, keep a sleeve of each in the bag and depending how your hitting and temperature that day use the ball you feel is working best.

  26. The best thing to do is find out where Titleist will be having a ball fitting that measures your ball flight, spin, etc.  I just attended one at my club and was surprised to find out the Pro v1x is the ball for me.  You will also get 2, 2 ball sleeves (4 total) of the ball that is best for you.  Good luck!
