  1. I tried the new AVX a few days ago. It was 48 degrees and I was interested in playing a lower compression ball than my normal Pro V1 in this cold weather. I was considering trying the Chrome Soft or new Bridgestone Tour B RXS, both of which have low compression ratings in the mid 60's. However I saw the AVX in the Pro Shop and our club pro suggested I try it. I picked up 7-10 yards in carry with my irons and 10-15 yards with my driver! It definitely feels softer and easier to compress. Very nice feel off my putter face too. Don't know how it will perform in normal 75-80+ temperatures. Does anyone know for certain what the compression ratings are for the AXV, Pro V1 and Pro V1x?
  2. The AVX gives 12 to 15 yards more distance on the drive 10 to 12 yards on the irons. The feel is much softer than the Pro V X 1. The roll out is where most of the additional yards comes from for me.

One of my golfing buddies got a couple dozen of the ATX balls when he was in Arizona. He gave me one to try. I love this ball. I hit it farther than the cally ChromeSoft balls I'm currently using, and it has good feel as well. I hope it becomes available in Texas soon.
  4. Great ball but simply too expensive. This would be my ball of choice but at $50/dz it won't be in my bag until they bring price down.
  5. I absolutely love the AVX, I was concerned about the short game spin coming from a Pro V1X but around the greens it’s very similar for me. I gained at least 10 yards with the driver and at least 5 yards with irons. I’ve never played a ball that feels this soft, hooked.

I’m in my late 60’s and a 10 handicapper. I’ve played Pro V1 balls for many years and have experienced the typical loss in carry distance (regardless of ball) most of us face as we age.
This year, when we moved to our Florida home for the winter, our pro shop had the AVX ball available, so I decided to try it. The biggest difference I have noticed with this ball is that it flies further than comparable shots with the Pro V1, especially with the mid and long irons. Yes, it may be somewhat longer off the tee, and it has a somewhat softer feel/sound coming off the club, but for me not as noticeable as the length with mid/longer irons. I flew a few greens before I was convinced it was actually the ball and not the quality of contact. I find I can play 1/2 to a full club less from the same yardage with the AVX vs. Pro V1. I don’t see an appreciable difference with full wedges or 30/40 yard pitches. The ball checks up well with plenty of spin. I don’t feel a big difference in putting between the two balls. The AVX trajectory is nice and high without ballooning and is not prone to a lot of side spin off the tee. I haven’t seen any Trackman data on this ball, so this is all empirical observation for now, based on 10-15 rounds. I’m playing the AVX with the new AP3 irons (with the Tensei graphite shaft, R flex), and am very pleased with both. It seems like a good match for me. I hope Titleist decides to keep this ball in the line-up, as I’m strongly considering making a permanent switch to this ball. I will likely go with this ball next Spring when I order my year’s supply, unless it’s not going to be available long term.
  7. After my initial couple of rounds with AVX I had the same concern as Andrew S about its performance around the greens. Coming from Pro V1x which spins a LOT in the short game I figured surely the lower-flying, softer-feeling, longer-hitting AVX must mean giving up a lot of that control. You don't get something for nothing, right?

So I did things the Titleist-recommended way. Played a round with AVX from tee to green and then stopped at each green and played the same short-game shot with 3 Pro V1x and 3 AVX balls. So over the course of a few hours I probably hit 100 or so shots from 20 to 50 yards split evenly between the two balls.

For my game, on the vast majority of shots the two balls reacted exactly the same. But on the longer shots I tried (40 or 50 yard pitch shots with SW or LW) the Pro V1x would dig in and stop slightly quicker than AVX if I was really nipping it aggressively off a tight lie. But at most a few feet of difference and only normal shots or from shorter distances, no difference at all.

I think the only type of player who would be bothered by that difference are the guys who play that "low spinner" designed to come in about shoulder high and stop almost immediately when it lands. I suspect the AVX might not be ideal for that. But my short game is based on either letting the ball release or bringing it in high and soft. So no worries for me at all about giving up any control by using AVX.
  8. I’m a 6 handicap and live in Wichita, Ks. I have been playing this ball for a about a month and absolutely love it. It is usually windy here, and IMO the ball is second to none in windy conditions. It is long, straight and has a soft feel. Get them to the market Titleist!

had a friend from florida send me a dozen yellow and played 4-5 rounds with the avx. loved the feel and look and the distance was similar to the pro v. i was told by our pro that it was probably going to replace the nxt-s. though i loved how the ball felt it's not worth 48 dollars just to get the optic yellow. if indeed it's going to replace the nxt it should be priced similarly not the same as the pro-v
  10. I was able to purchase the Titleist AVX Ball online. Is the ball allowed to be used in official tournament play?
  11. Yes, AVX is on the USGA Conforming Balls list along with all the other Titleist balls.

I do not think Titleist would ever sell a non-conforming golf ball by the way!
  12. Recently played 2 rounds with the AVX here in Phx (1 hdcp, 116MPH, ProV1, AP2). Our men’s club tees off at 8 in Dec/Jan so it’s in the 40’s. In these temps I prefer a softer ball than the ProV1 (played Solos last winter) so I decided to try these.

My impressions - very soft, wonderful in the cold temps. 7-8 yards longer on full iron shots. 12-14 yards longer off the tee. Less spin on full iron shots - does not have same workability or stopping power as ProV1. Could not check chip shots as tightly - the ball released more than I am used to. Cover is more durable, the 2 balls I played have no scuff marks. Marked balls with perm marker which wore off very quickly.

For the typical mid hdcp player, this is probably a better ball for them than either of the ProV balls. It’s soft, long, consistent (spin wise), straight, and very durable.
  13. live in Arizona and played the AVX today. i have ben playing the pro V1 X for a while and thought i would give this a whirl.

bottom line, i did not like the ball as the feel is not as responsive off the face of the club as the X and saw no distance increase. i am a 2 handicap and have a good feel such that i could immediately tell if this new ball offered anything meaningful in the way of distance and or other.

i would not switch from the X for this ball.
  14. A friend from California (I'm in Okla.) sent me a dozen of these a few weeks back and I played 4 round with the AVX so far. It has become my 'go to' ball, so much so that I've stockpiled a few dozen. I hope the AVX becomes available in all markets; while I would like to see the price in the $40 range to compete with similar balls, this is the best ball for me and my swing speed and game!

Picked up a dozen AVX balls at Academy Sporting Goods near Jacksonville a couple of days ago and tried them today. Maybe a slight increase in distance vs the Pro-V1 that I usually play. The "click" off my putter is slightly louder, and spin around the green (to me) seemingly identical. The ball looks a little different, with a more visible cone-look to the dimples. (Kind of like the B-stone ball.). I played the white ball, which has the same basic off-white color as the Pro-V1. Overall, I liked the ball a lot. It will be interesting to see if it challenges regular Pro-V1 users enough to switch, and if it becomes a regularly offered product?
  16. Would love to try the AVX out. Normally play the ProV1 and missed out on chance to get some here in Michigan. Anywhere I can get some?
  17. Any news/update from Titleist as to whether the AVX will continue to be produced and become available in all US markets?

    Thanks!
  18. I went to the local golf store to buy a sleeve of V1's. I saw the AVX, heard it was a limited offer from Titlist and since it came in optic yellow, I wound up buying a box.

Being over 70, I was pessimistic it would not perform as advertised with my swing speed. Boy, was I surprised! My longest drives in 5 years, it literally flies off the club head. I popped one 268 yards with no wind. It was consistently longer than any ball I have ever tried. Plus, it stopped on the greens.

Price point is high but matches performance!

I grabbed a dozen and have tried them now for about 4 rounds. I really like the AVX, ball looks nice and the dimples seem shallower, a nice bright white finish. However, I have always been a Pro V1 fan but routinely go back and forth to the B330Rx as it it always seemed to be a nice mix of distance and soft feel. I think the same of the AVX, very soft around the green. Although I have not been a low handicapper in some time, still judge balls by wedge spin around the green. I like these better than ProV1's. They spin like the ProV's around the green but with a softer feel. I swing about 95-100 mph off of the tee. I hope this ball stays in production.

I live in Texas and have gotten an opportunity to play the ball in 6 rounds since early December. It is my new favorite ball, previous ball was the NXT -S and ProV1, it definitely is a little softer and goes further off the Driver. Iron trajectory is solid, but aggressive wedge players beware it does spin a lot. Great ball I am hoping for a large release of the balls this Spring, I want more.

I was able to get a dozen of the AVX and was truly impressed with the additional distance, yet the ball has sufficient spin to check nicely on the green and has good feel for chips. I have been using the ProV1 and found the additional distance out weighs the small difference on spin. I have a slower swing speed. Seems like the right ball for me. Hope it makes to market this spring.
