In the early 1990s I played Grand Cypress in Florida, the first resort-style course I ever played. Along with a package of tees, a sleeve of two balls and a course yardage book, they gave each player a pretty nice ball mark repair tool, with instructions on how to correctly do a repair. I'm not sure if something like that works, but I used that tool for nearly 20 years. It was much nicer than what I had been using.

You can talk about this subject until you're blue in the face. You can give people a ball mark repairer (Most pros just use the tee in their pocket) with instructions, put up signs and whatever. The simple and sad fact is that players who care will fix ball marks, replace divots ( In FL we use sand) and rake bunkers and those who don't care will not.

If we all repaired our own ball marks and divots, plus 2 more, it would go a long way to solving the problems left by the gravy sucking pigs that have no courtesy for the golfers that follow them.

It is a plague on most courses! As others have said always get mine and all the others that I spot!

While were on the subject of green damage, what about those who leave smoldering cigarette and cigar butts on the green and in the fringe. I quit smoking 18 years ago, but when I smoked, I extinguished them on the cart path or buried them in the back edge of the bunker where they could do no harm.

This is something that boils my piss, excuse my language.
I always repair my pitch marks and try to do a couple more each hole if I find them.

It seems to have gotten worse for them this season at my club,
I’m always moaning to my pro about this.
We started giving players a free diviot tool September/ October to prompt/ encourage the players to repair pitchmarks.
    This helped a little.

Roger, great link to the video. I will continue to repair mine and at least two more ball marks on the green. "Try to leave a place better than you found it!"
  8. Couldn't agree more!!! I fix an average of 3-5 ball marks on every green, on almost every course I play. I can't believe that people are so inconsiderate. To me, one of the greatest thrills is fixing a ball mark, because it means I hit that green from a distance (hopefully in regulation lol).
  9. I always repair my marks, as well as a few that I may find. If everyone does they're part we can all enjoy our round! It's too bad the laziness and disrespect of a few can affect us all.

This category blows my mind...Not fixing your pitch mark and a few others is just plain lazy.
I don't understand why this is such a big chore to preform. It's Respect for the course and other players.
A few weeks ago I had an 8 a.m. tee time and on the first green I repaired 3 fresh ball marks...we were the 5th group out...Think I fixed over 60 ball marks that day including mine....NUTS!!!

Fix your Pitch Marks...Rake Your Traps...Fill and Level your Divots...by doing these you will help with reducing maintenance costs etc.

    Cheers,

I think we've about beat that horse to death....but I will add one more irritant. Finding a ball mark that's within 2 feet of the cup. Ok, we're all impressed with that shot. But did you have to leave it like a badge of honor for everybody who follows to see? How about the guy who saw it but didn't fix it? Like he wasn't already bending over?

I also agree about the cigarette butts, cigar turds and sunflower shells.
  12. Really glad I made this post seems like a lot of people needed to get their frustrations out on this subject.

Hope most golfers new years resolutions are to repair their pitch marks.
