My first job at 14 years old was at a driving range. I didn't know anything about golf when I started. The rest is history.

1973 Junior Golf program at Arthur B sims golf course age 10. My dad signed me up. I started playing sports at 6 (baseball) 7 (Basketball & Bowling) 9 (Football) Golf at 10. My dad was not athletic or a good golfer but he wanted his sons to play whatever sports they wanted to and that was how it started. I used at the start I used ladies driver & 3 wood (pretty light blue) as the length fit me better. They were Spalding's, I used whatever ball I could find in my bag to hit then slowly started settling on Wilson & Maxflies thru my early teens

By freshman year I was playing varsity golf in high school & lettered 4 years eventually I got a set of Titleist clubs. Our coach gave us a sleeve of Titleist DT 90's before each meet & that's when I started playing Tilteist golf balls regularly, after that I liked playing as much as possible but my baseball then and later my competitive softball was getting in the way. So at 32 (1995) I quit playing all together sold the clubs and only played best ball scrambles & borrowed clubs to do it.

I returned full time back in 2011 at the age of 48 bought some clubs (Callys) and had to learn all about the new type of shafts, driver heads, HYBRIDS & carrying 4 wedges because when I quit a 9 Iron was 45 degrees & a PW was 50 degrees now it's 43 and a AW wedge is 47/48 and so on. I eventually bought me a brand new set of 716 Ap1's 4-AW, 915D2 9.5, 915F 16.5, 816 H1's 19 & 23 & 2 years ago I got me a Scotty Cameron Newport 2 to round out the bag. I play Prov 1's all the time.

I missed the competition between me & the course and to this day I still approach it that way. If I beat the course I will fair well against others, if the course beats me then I shall lose to others as well so that has always been my focus the course, you can't physically make someone play worse than you except by playing better than them. And if they are in your group it works even better...Lol

My dad didn't play, but during the height of Arnie's Army days (mid-1960s) dad got my brother and I a junior set to share for Christmas. We had to wait until spring before we got to try it out, but he took us to a local driving range in the suburbs on the first warm, dry day. Over the years we used those clubs in our postage-stamp size backyard, hitting (mostly) plastic balls. I never actually played at a real course until 8th grade, when I went with a friend to our local muni. My friend lent me his mom's left-handed clubs. My friend's dad would even treat us to rounds of golf and dinner at his country club if we did yard work for him. As it turned out, I had been playing right-handed with that junior set, but I played hockey left handed. I saw an immediate improvement in my game with the left handed clubs, but left handed clubs were, as I recall, an expensive, special order item at the time. So I went back to playing right handed. Eventually, when I considered getting my own clubs, I tried a left handed set, and found it to be very uncomfortable and unnatural. So back to the right handed clubs I went, and I've been right handed ever since. (I still play ice hockey left handed though). Depending on life, career and moves, I have gone years without playing, but I always somehow return to the game.

Cutting class in high school once a week on wednesdays with a set of secondhand mcGregors. My best friends grandfather got him started and he put the bug in my ear. Been afflicted every since.

I played rugby & soccer in winter but my sport of choice was Cricket. I played league cricket from 13 until 33. I never bothered with golf as I found it strange that the better you were at golf, the less times you got to hit the ball... At cricket you could bat for as long as you were "not out". Granted, it even requires at least 2 people to set up a practice session!
I stopped playing cricket when my knees gave way and found I had a sporting & social void.
I was eventually persuaded to play Society golf with some mates & got hooked. Though a club member, I still step out with that Society. I also play golf abroad a couple of times a year with friends (also Society members)I have known for more than 40 years. We also play in Open comps and Charity events.
Now I'm a fully-paid-up golf nut. I enjoy practicing, playing alone or in groups, playing courses old & new, learning different techniques and keeping abreast of new equipment.
Whilst I don't regret my cricket adventures, I do wish I'd got into golf earlier.

When I was 12 my neighbor gave me an old set of Titleist blade irons (2-PW) and very old Titleist woods (we are talking some real wood on them) and I’ve been hooked on Titleist ever since! I played a ton as a junior doing clinics and playing every week in the summers, and then played sporadically until about 6 years ago when I started playing a lot more. Joined a club last year and play as often as I can. I’m hoping to bring my handicap down a lot this season. I have a 2 year old who loves going to the course and I can’t wait to provide him all of the opportunities I wasn’t able to have if he wants them!

Second is he left handed for drawing and every day things?
My 10 year old is a left for everything else but golf, which to me is fantastic.
Keep that little guy coming back to the course and you will have a golf partner for life.

We are still trying to figure out if he's a lefty or a righty. He throws, kicks (in little kids soccer clinics to work on coordination), and "swings" both left and right. I think he'll end up ambidextrous in sports, but write w/ his right hand. He's the only kid in his school that the teachers can't identify which hand is dominant because of how interchangeable he uses them.

I can tell by the scorecard in that picture that you play at River Oaks. My father in law is a member there, so I join him occasionally. I play most of my rounds at Golfclub of Edmond, and sometimes Kickingbird.

Yes sir! I'm a big fan of GCoE and used to play there a lot before River Oaks. GCoE is a very tight course and a lot of fun. Rewards good shots. I live in the Northeast part of Edmond so those are all right by me. Do you ever make it over to the West side to play Rose Creek?

My father always played but since my brother and I were vested into baseball golf was always a no no except maybe the range a time or two. Well after my baseball career was well over and after the passing of my father I decided it was something I was going to get into to be able to spend time with my uncles and enjoy what my father did with them. Also I have a very good buddy that was into golf so it was something to do and talk about. After finding GolfWRX things were all downhill and the obsession took over.

When I was little I would mess around with my Grandpa’s old clubs in his yard. I always played baseball in high school but my senior year I decided I didn’t want to play for my coach anymore. So I signed up for golf and I loved it! I played every chance I had because the course let us play for free. I ended up making varsity and even got a most improved trophy at the end of year. But then life hit and I only played a hand full of times over the next 18 years. I did however play softball and baseball over the years but it took up to much time traveling and being gone all weekend. But two years ago I was reintroduced to golf by my friend Eric. I was not very good when I first started. Super inconsistent and a lot of bad habits from softball. I have made a lot of equipment changes and a lot of practice has helped. Now I’m working on getting my handicap down in the single digits this year.

My older brother played and my grandparents gave me my first set of clubs. I was soon addicted to the game and began caddying (at the club I belong to now) when I was about 12 years old.

I have passed my love of the game onto my two sons and there is nothing better than a summer afternoon round with them!
