I've played twice this month with the same two other guys. Our first outing at UNC Finley I wanted the flag in and they played with it out and it may have actually slowed our play a bit. On the back nine they began leaving it in on longer putts. Playing last week at Chapel Ridge we left the flag in on almost every putt and we agreed it sped things up and a few putts may have dropped solely because the hit the pin. The benefits are real...YMMV.

I cant get used to leaving the flag in for short putts - long range , no problem it is a visual aid , short putts the flag needs to be out for me

Still snow on the ground here in NY. But the plan is...In on longer putts, out on short ones. And we'll see what happens. Might go back to OUT all the time and might go to IN all the time. Have to wait and see.

It's great when you play a quick nine on your own but it probably wouldn't be great when playing others.

I personally can't believe any of these pros are leaving the flagstick in. I watch them putting on tv and the flagstick is waving in the wind, I feel like a well struck putt could be bounced out by a shaking flagstick.

I like to play solo most of the time, so, for me, it is much better to just leave the flag stick in. It speeds up play, and I really have not noticed it making that much of a difference. Also I am a quick player, so I don't really want to spend the extra time taking the flag out and putting it back in again.

So far I’m an advocate of leaving it in for longer putts, but out for anything around 10ft and in.
For longer putts it helps with distance judgment and gives help with aim. It also helps that everyone can line their putts up rather than thinking of tending the pin or going to take it out. Preserves the green around the hole as there is less pressure on the area immediately surrounding it.

Very interesting. I prefer to have the flagstick in, but that has more to do with me still trying to get comfortable on the greens.

My playing partner and I have been keeping it in for longer putts and we have been pulling it for shorter putts. The 4-5 rounds we've played together this year, it seems like this approach has been saving us time and steps. One of us no longer has to walk to the flag, and ask the other if they want it out or to be tended. That time is now used to line up our putts and I think having that extra bit of time has been beneficial towards our scores.

I think it depends on the putt or if you are just messing around are playing in a tournament. If I’m playing alone I leave it in. If I’m playing in a tournament I’ll keep it in on long putts and 5-10 it depends on if the stick is leaning towards me or not. But if I’m close I pull it.

I , also, play frequently alone and keep the flag in to speed up the play. Just having the option makes it a good rule.

Leaving it in, for both short and long putts. Getting used to it pretty fast, as our practice greens have full height pins as well.

Standard diameter one color fiberglass pins are fine. But I don't like those really large diameter striped pins. They are just too distracting and busy to look at.

I've been leaving it in just to quicken the pace of play a bit. But did notice it being severely annoying on a windy day! Was pulling it out just to not have to listen to it. Lol

Scratch the above post. After some more rounds my playing buddy and i have just decided to pull it out as usual. We always know who to pull the pin or when under the old rules. Now it seems to be a pain to figure out who wants it in, who wants it out! So between us its just better that as soon as were both on the green the closest to the pin pulls it. Seemed to speed things up instead of asking every hole if you wanted it in or out!
