From most people I know that works at a course, they play less than others who don't :/

Its a bit of a fallacy that working at a golf course means you play more golf. I have a PGA teaching pro buddy that worked off and on at multiple courses and between lessons and working the pro shop, never had time to play or work on his game. My recommendation is find a job that has some balanced hours, plenty of vacation time, and something you like to do. Live in an area that allows you to play year-round and then take advantage of your weekends and vacation time. The key being, do what makes you happy and find that work/life balance.

You're so right Dale. I've worked at my course for 24 years. I make sure I get out for 18 at least once a week. But most of the time, it's just work. Early mornings and long days but I still love it!

I don't see the Pro playing as much as some may think. Me, 38 years in Law Enforcement, mostly working nights. Played with some of the guys I worked with and some sales guys. Worked lots of hours so my wife could stay home and raise the kids without daycare. Usual schedule during good weather.........16 hour day Monday, 16 hour day Tuesday, 16 hour day Thursday, with regular 8 hour nights the other days or a day off in there. Golf.......Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

Retired 4 years ago, took a job in safety. 4 bosses in 30 months was enough to realize the "private" sector was no better than the "public" sector. My beloved said to me ".....why don't you go back and direct traffic, you'd be able to play more golf". My response, "who are you and how did you get into this house!" but took her advice and began working traffic details again.

New schedule.......Traffic Monday, Tuesday, Thursday. Golf......Wednesday, Thursday, (9 hole Men's League) Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Now when my wife asks "are you going to the golf course again", I said only because you suggested my new life dear. She wants to know how long I'm going to through that back in her face.

Freelance writer. Home office. Play golf most days, write mostly mornings and nights. Sometimes well into the night. Play 150-200 rounds a year.

Not really my job as much as my hours I work. I am in Quality Assurance in aircraft manufacturing and work a 6th Shift.
I work 3pm - 1:30am 4 days a week. I get up and play 18 before work from time to time during the week.
I am usually up around 8 am every day which gives me plenty of time to play a round.

Working on a golf course almost leaves no time to play. Especially when you're caddying and working the cart barn...you're almost too tired to even ride 18 or you work the full weekend!

Well, as far as working at a golf course, it really depends on what you do. I was the Outside Golf Ops Supervisor for a while at a country club, I was fortunate enough to work mostly all mornings, so 5am until about 2-3 pm, then the afternoon was mine to play or practice. The Director of Golf, Head Pro, and Assistant Pros hardly ever found enough time to play or practice though.

Now I work in insurance fraud investigations, work 40-50 hours per week but during longer daylight in the summer I can usually go play or practice a few days per week after work, and I am fortunate enough to play most weekends.

Wow, aircraft manufacturing quality assurance sounds pretty serious! Sounds like you have a pretty important job and still have time to fit in your golf

I'm a PE/M&A attorney, so at times I can't play at all for weeks on end, but then we also have slow times where I'm basically playing every day waiting for the next deal to come.

I'm also in the process of joining a club that is within 5 minutes of my house and 10 minutes of my office. That should help for hitting the range and working on short game even if it's only for 15-20 minutes a few days a week and on weekends. That should help me maintain my game even in the busier times.

When I was in my 20's I worked for an insurance company--Sales--and most of my appointments were in the evening. So I was able to play a couple days during the week, we usually had Wednesday morning and Friday afternoon game.

For the past 4 years I've worked as a Tournament Director at a golf course. I play at least two nine hole rounds a week, and often another 18 mixed in somewhere. What I don't do as much as I should is practice :( It's too easy to just jump in a cart and go play a 3 hole loop in 30 to 40 minutes, instead of working on the putting green or range.

I'm in Sales. I take customers out for a few rounds throughout the year. Plus a bonus is when I have early meetings, can sneak in a round in the late afternoon.

I work in Mining so I might be away from home for a week or two at a time, but the great thing about my job is that if I'm gone for a week I get a week off. So after Honeydo's I usually have 3 to 5 days golf...#wifeyworksdays #emptynester...madgolfer hitemstraight

I have found that retirement is definitely the best profession for multiple rounds of golf per week.

I've worked in the industry for 5 years now and have heard lots of colleagues joke about never getting to play golf when working in the industry. The amount of golf definitely falls short of what one would expect, but I've played way more than when I worked previous gigs outside the industry.

More so than quantity, being in the industry has allowed me to play some quality courses I could've only dreamed of in the past. As a golfer, being in the industry definitely has its perks!

I work in information security for a very large corporation. They provide a large number of PTO days, so I frequently take 1/2 days of PTO to play golf during the week.

Working at a golf course is certainly not the way to go. When I worked in the pro shop we were focused on taking the last cart that came in and playing one club until we couldn't see the ball anymore.
Sales allows some flexibility but look for something you like with generous PTO.
Although it is a grind, restaurant work can be great. My externship from culinary school was at cally Gardens. I cooked at night and had golfing privileges. Hit all the balls I wanted and played about 3 times a week.

Early in my "working" life, I took a part time job at a golf course which mainly consisted of collecting money for golfers hitting the driving range at night. I was able to keep my day job and did the golf work a couple of days a week. The biggest perk I got with this arrangement is I got to play golf for free and took advantage of it by playing at least 3 days a week (not all 18 hole rounds).

A few years ago, my business was involved with a M&A venture by a PE firm and that freed up a lot of time for me since a lot of the business day-to-day work shifted to my PE partners. Now, I'm back to my 3 days a week average.

Work in a tourist area along a warm coastal city as Charleston, SC where that are a number of golf courses in upscale restaurants (number one tourist destination in US), where you can work in the evenings, make a very decent living and play golf in the daytime. Have met guys at our muni who do this and love it. Some work as caddies in the mornings at the Kiawah Resort (primarily the Ocean Course) and play golf in the afternoon at other courses. We play golf just about the year round, except for the three weeks of winter might slow us down, but then we put on our warmest and give it a try. With respect to those who work. Retirement is the best non four letter word (work) going. Each find your on passion.
