I'm a teacher and HS golf coach in the Northeast. I play over 100 rounds a year. In the spring I play after school, then summers off and then a little a bit with my golf team in the Fall.

Before retirement I was in outside sales for a equipment rental and sales company.I had a manager who encouraged us to entertain the customer...by taking them to lunch, ball games, and my favorite GOLF...great way to only work a half day then meet up and play 9 or 18 then drinks and dinner..put it on my expense report and turn it in..what was also great was having my golf, drinks, and dinner paid also along with my customers...

I am an executive in business, but my golf game was almost nonexistent during my kids younger years… however, being decent at golf has definitely helped my career by landing me in conversations and places that I wouldn’t have been otherwise. Now that I have a few years in (20+) I’m able to make my own schedule for the most part but still only can count on an average of 1 round a week with several weeks where I’m able to squeeze in a bonus round.

When I was a club pro, I very rarely had any time to play or practice. The only time I had to play was the odd pro-am with some of the members.

Now as a work from home employee I can pretty much set my hours and get to play a lot more golf. I also get to play when I travel for work.

I worked for the state of South Carolina for over twenty one years. Got off at 5pm every day and the golf course was on my way home. Could get in a quick nine holes every afternoon and played 18 on Saturday and Sunday. Now that I am retired do no play as much, play three to four days a week. Average 80-100 rounds a year. Stay away from playing on the weekends, too many tourists.

I started working Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights to be home with the kids during the week. My last one starts kindergarten soon and I’ll be joining a club in September. I’ll probably be there 3-4 times per week.
  13. I work remotely now for an international Whisky Brand. I start at 10:00am 3 mornings a week so I Tee off at 6:40am and complete 18 holes by 9:15am.
Also I head out at 7:00pm sometimes and it is light here until 10:00pm in the Northeast of the UK.
I am playing The Old Head Golf Links next month as they stock our our Whisky and am looking to play in some Pro Ams at events we may be sponsoring too.

  14. In B2B sales I've been able to set my own schedules. I try to squeeze in 18 one morning through the week and play 9 a couple times after work if I have the daylight.. I do live on a golf course which makes it a lot easier.

I'm an Instructional Designer and I work from home. As long as I get my projects done I have time to practice at home and get out to play during the week.

I work in Real Estate here in Northern Virginia. I love the freedom to be able to get out and play a couple times a week. Most clients want to see houses either weekday evenings or on the weekends. You could play golf just about every weekday morning if you wanted to. Weekend rounds are a bit tricky trying to work around clients showings. At the end of the day, real estate gives the opportunity to make good money and have the freedom to get out on the course throughout the week.

Early on in this thread I replied, "Freelance writer. Home office. Play golf most days, write mostly mornings and nights. Sometimes well into the night. Play 150-200 rounds a year." That was last year. Things changed.

In the beginning of January 2022, I went on staff, "part time" (supposedly), as part of the management team at a high end daily fee course, working in the Pro Shop, basically controlling all golf related operations. In theory, I am scheduled for about 30-35 hours a week, mostly afternoons until close (around 8:30 or 9). In reality, it is usually a lot more. My golf went from playing and/or practicing virtually everyday, to lucky if I get in 3 rounds a week! And boy has my sharpness and touch suffered as a result. I am so torn now. I love the job, but hate the effect it is showing on my game. (I do love having Titleist and Footjoy reps with whom I can work closely. Yes, I also have access to reps for all the other manufacturers we carry, but Titleist and FJ are the only ones I make "time" for.

No time for writing much these days either. Freelance or otherwise. In fact, prior to starting this Pro Shop gig, I was in the home stretch of penning a book manuscript (about murder and greed, et. al., wrapped within the goings-on of a prominent country club along the New England coast). Unfortunately, over these past 6 months, but for a few edits here or there, it hasn't had a single new paragraph added.
