    Hey Team Titleist -

This time of year always seems like a time of reflection, but just a few months ago, we asked some of our Titleist players to look back on their earlier days. We asked them, what was the first golf course you ever played?

Mine was Sylvania Country Club in Sylvania, Ohio, and according to my dad, I played three holes, ha! I also played my first full round there and was part of the junior golf program that played every Friday morning in the summer.

We hope you enjoy the video below, and share the first course you ever played (if you remember!) in the comments below.

    Cheers,

  2. Meadowbrook golf course in Lexington KY. Par 3 course I was 11. I have been addicted ever since!

Lynrock Golf Club in Eden, NC. June 1968; I was 13 years old. Walked nine holes with a buddy and I was whipped. I have not stopped loving this game for 50+ years. It is my primary hobby and I still enjoy walking nine holes occasionally by myself. Although the social and recreational aspects are the most important reasons I continue to play. I am looking forward to playing even more rounds in 2019.

The absolute first was probably Knights Play Golf Center in Apex, NC, a par 3 with 27 holes. The first full regulation course would be Lochmere GC in Cary, NC, which would end up being the course I held a membership at for over a decade (well, was on my mother's family membership for a few years before I branched off on my own). I've since moved away, but I go back when I can and play Lochmere with my mom and friends who are still members there. When I was growing up it was in rough shape, but the past few years they've been investing a ton of money in it, including new greens a few years ago.

Walnut Lane Golf Course in Philadelphia when I was about 13. At the time, it was owned by the city. I played with my (eventual) best friend in high school. It was, and still is, a pretty cool course that winds it's way through a heavily wooded section of Fairmount Park. I understand that it is no longer a city property, and the conditions of the course have vastly improved.

Cazenovia Golf Course - Buffalo, NY. A scruffy city 9 hole course. I spent my youth playing 27 a day from the age of 11 through college. I still go back to Caz and play once a year now for old times sake. That first round was 46 years ago!

It was a 9 hole course built in what was the infield of a horse race track.

Green Harbor Golf Club in Marshfield, MA. I lived just down the street and actually walked to the course carrying my bag. Family owned course that to this day does is walking only, lots of great memories.

I tried golf back in the 70s at Myrtle Beach AFB Golf Course which was a nine hole course, but did not start playing until 1985 and played Patriots Point Golf Course in Mt Pleasant, SC.

I get a little chuckle each time I think of it :-) The VA at Mission Hills has a little par 3 course with 9 holes with greens so small... we had a lot of fun out there!

Probably Rockwood Municipal on the North side of Fort Worth TX. That would have been about 44 years ago so my memory could be a little off.
  12. Inverness Club, Toledo Oh. Started caddying there when I was 13 and fell in love with the game. We used to play on Mondays for free as the course was closed. That was 40 years ago and have only played there a handful of times since. One of my best experiences in life. The club pro at that time was Herman Lang and used to give me lessons on the side.

Now this, of course, makes me smile. Amazing story about Herman Lang, legend! Not many know Inverness Club professional at the time, Byron Nelson, offered Mr. Lang the top assistant's job.

  14. As I came from a middle class family, I couldn’t afford higher end clubs. Mr. Lang saw hope in me and one day pulled me in the bag room and asked if I needed better clubs, of course I told him and he gave a set that a member just traded in. Played them through my high school years on the golf team. He always took care of promising kids that worked hard. For that, I was always Thankful for him and the experience that I had working there.
  15. Caddied for my grandfather at Mason Rudolph Golf Course in Clarksville, TN starting at the age of 6. Started playing at the same course a short time later.

Stony Brook golf course, Southborough MA, a 9 hole par 3 course. A friends grandfather built the course and I Learned to play there with his grandson and some friends, summer of 7th grade. Then moved to the "big" course, St. Mark's the other side of town, 9 holes but full length. Then the following year when we were big shots and went out for the golf team at high school, Saddle Hill CC in neighboring Hopkinton, WOW! a full 18 holes, and West Meadow in Westborough where the High School Golf Team played and practiced. I didn't make the team, but for whatever reason they kept me around, maybe as a mascot, as I was the only freshman who kept on showing up. Learned a lot from watching those "older" upper classmen

Hey TUser. That was a great 18 hole course before they dug up 9 holes to build Bergen Community College.
  22. Deno right next door to Saddle River as well. Now Paramus Golf. Still remember the eggs in the glass jar at the halfway house.

First Golf course I ever played was Playland Park in South Bend Indiana.
I played with my grandfather when I was 8 or 9 years old.
Long after playing that first round the with my grandfather the Redden Family who owned the course became my second family. I became friends wit their kids and cousins...worked the pro shop and cut the greens...from high school thru college we played thousands of holes night and day...Playland became part of my DNA.

Playland was a great golf course and a good piece of Northern Indiana History.

Playland is no longer around but the history of Playland Park is incredible.

First 18 hole round I ever played was at Oak Hills Golf Course in Norwalk, Connecticut in it's inaugural year, 1969.

1st official round was at Summerside golf and country club. PE. Canada.
I shot approx 105 lol. August 1998 I was 17 and lost to my little brother who was 13.
1st time ever being on a golf course I was about 6-7 and drove around with my Dad in cart at the same course. I remember only a couple different holes but quite distinctively. Not sure if I hit any balls or not!
  28. There's a driving range in Florence, KY called World of Golf. It had a course that went around the outside of the range. After going to the range for what seemed like forever because I was too nervous and didn't think I had the game to play on a course. A friend and me played there and it's been a great ride since then!
