May first round of golf was at what was then a very nice course called Hidden Lakes.
It has now closed.
And yes there were several lakes that came into play that u could not see from the fairway.

The first course I ever played, was the same course I have worked at for the last 23 years. Atlantis GC. Built in 1962 by George Fazio. The county bought it in 1989. I still spend almost every day there either working or playing.

The first course I played dates back to the mid-1950's. Lincoln Park Golf Course in Milwaukee, WI was founded in 1916. It is now called a nine hole "executive" course. A par 33 layout, 2630 yards from the tips, par 3's and 4's only. The longest hole is 417 yards. It is part of the Milwaukee County Parks System.

A grade school classmate of mine in the mid-1950's had been asking me to give it a try. I wasn't interested, but, finally relented. He told me it was a game I could play for the rest of your life. I thought how hard can it be, the ball just sits there. Well, you know how this ends, he was right.

For me it was Paddock Country Club in Florissant MO, now call Old Florissant Golf Course. They had an all day rate.

Excelsior Springs Golf Course in Excelsior Springs, MO. It opened in 1915. I was first on the golf course in either ‘77 or ‘78 after my grandfather retired, I was probably 5 years old. He cut down a old five iron and put on a grip for me. He died in 1979. I got serious about golf in the mid-80’s and I first played 9 holes on the same course. I never step foot on a golf course without thinking of my grandfather. Everyone talks about their dream foursome, but I would rather play four rounds with grandpa than one round with anyone else.

Kings Mill near Marion OH. I was about 10 and Dad & I took up golf and played 9 holes on Sunday mornings for several years with our neighbor and Dad’s co-worker Jake and his son Dave (my best friend at that time). Dave & I also prized the grape soda after the 9!

Old Tappan Golf Course, Old Tappan, NJ. Started playing in 6th grade, somewhere around 1970, walk through the woods to the golf course.
A nine hole course, had a lot of fun there as a kid. Played Jack Nicklaus- Golden Bear persimmon woods! (still have the heads)
We used to wade barefoot in the water hazard, by the third hole, as kids, finding golf balls. Always loved finding Acushnet Club Specials !

A buddy and I once found probably a hundred golf balls one day. We showed them off to the Pro, Yaz. Boy did he get upset! Those were his balls ! He let us each keep a dozen, and he kept the rest! LOL!!

Shennecossett in Groton CT along the Thames River. A Donald Ross design , but at 10 years old I didn't know who DR was...

My first course was Grover Cleveland golf course in Buffalo in 1963. Used a tee in the fairway because I always used a tee when I hit practice balls in the park close to my home. Quite a coincidence that I was a member of Sylvania Country Club in the early 1980s.

Tony Lema golf course in San Leandro, CA. It was a modestly short 18 hole course that was later expanded and split. The last I know 9 of the holes became the Marina Golf Course which largerly had stayed the same and the othe 9 became 6 holes in what is now the Monarch Bay Golf Course. At that time it was less than the links style course as it is today as the trees where fairly mature. I thought it was tough but really that was more me than the course.

Through expansion across the canal it grew to a nice links course where afternoon winds on a couple of the return holes would easily punish a high spinning golf ball. The improved course was nice to play at that time to a hacker as I was in those early days.

Rivercrest golf club in Covington, IN. My grandfather took me there when I was 12. I played my Senior year for Covington High school and loved every minute of it. After high school I didn’t really play at all. But in. The last two years I have really started playing and when ever I go back to see family I make sure I play Rivercrest.

I fell in love with golf playing Putt Putt (the real deal, not goofy golf), but the first real course I played was Sandy Ridge GC in Midland, Michigan at the tender age of 10 and I’ve been a golf nut ever since!

My first course was the Monona Municipal Golf Course in Monona, WI. Was taking lessons for a week in 6th grade and wanted to see if I was learning anything. Only played 7 holes, but I was beating my friend I was with and he said I was reall good......that is all it took and I am a golf nut!

May 12,1973 was the first time I played golf Horsethirf golf course just north of Palmdale,Ca I was 12 yrs old par 72 6800 yrds I shot 122 I will never forget it now been playing 45 yrs and still love it

My older brother John took me out to Silver Lake GC in Staten Island, NY. I was 8 and haven’t stopped playing since( 44 years)

It was San Mateo Muni in California. My dad would wake me up at 5:00 am and we would meet a couple of his friends on the first tee. We played the first two holes in the dark with a flashlight. Great experience at 12 years old. Still playing at 68.
