Had a friend back in our early teens who's dad was a big golf nut. Taught us the elementary grip and swing using plastic practice balls around the yard. After we showed some promise would take us in the evenings, drop us off and we'd hop the fence at Salisbury Park on Long Island and sneak in as many holes until getting dark when he'd come back and meet us at the same place. Helped form a life long affair with game. Cool memories!

Forest Hills Golf Course in Proctorville, OH which unfortunately is no longer a golf course. My Dad took me there as a 10 year old and I continued to play there until my late 20's when I moved to Columbus, OH.

Mine was about 43+ years ago. Sagamore golf course in North Hampton, N.H. I remember teeing it up all the way down the fairway too just to figure out my swing.

Ralph, I loved playing Sagamore Hampton! I set up my schedule at UNH so I'd have Friday mornings off and I'd have the course to myself... well, just me and the woodchucks. Still love to get back there when I can - really a great example of quality public golf that's laid back and welcoming. I can still remember learning to hit my first draws on that course.

For the record, the first course I ever played was Woburn CC in Woburn, MA, a small 9-hole muni, which looked gigantic when I first played as a 14-year-old. The pro there, Paul Parajeckas, was (still is) a great player and he let my buddies and me play free all summer in exchange for 40 hours/each of labor on the grounds crew. Best deal ever. A little hayfever, a little poison ivy in exchange for the game of a lifetime. I'm eternally grateful to Paul for that kindness.

Mine was Parklands Golf Club in Gosforth Park, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK. Was a member there for nearly 12yrs, moving from complete beginner to a 7 handicap.

Derryfield Country Club, Manchester NH. Summer pass was $90, all you can play. Good ol' days...

The first course I played was The Oaks in St. Joseph, MI, which is now a neighborhood and the course is long gone. My friends invited me to play, I was 14, shot a 72. For 9 holes...

Can't say I'm a whole lot better golfer these days, but I love the game, and get out there as much as I ever did.

25+ years ago. Makaha East course back home on Oahu. Played horrible, had a great time and got a birdie on a Par 4! I was hooked after that!

Island Country Club on Marco Island, FL. It was around 1966 and the course was recently opened for play and before Tony Lema was contracted as their touring pro. We lived on the 5th hole and had a cart. So few members and play at the time we were able to start from our house and play. Balata balls that cut with a firm putting stroke, blade irons, persimmon woods with steel shafts, yet, for some reason I kept playing.

The first golf course I played was College Park Municipal, a nine hole course in College Park Ga.

Tulliallan Scotland Clackmannanshire, 1994 was a member for 3 years got down to 6 handicap as a junior and gave golf up completely.

I Joined Tulliallan again in 2015,
Loving my golf more than ever now.
Handicap 11, hoping to get back to single figures next year.

Jacob Riis park golf course, par 3, I guess I was 8. We lived nearby in Gerritsen Beach. My dad took me along with him. We moved away soon after. I didn't play again until college, at UF.

My first regulation course was the Norwich Municipal Golf Course.

Hudson River CC in Yonkers, N.Y. In 1966 I was a 13 year old caddy there and they would let the caddies play on Mondays. The club has long since been sold to a developer and is now a corporate office park. The clubhouse survived and was converted to a catering facility called The Hudson River Chateau. I attended a few wedding receptions there so I finally got to go into the clubhouse LOL. They also saved the 18th hole which was a short par 3 right behind the clubhouse which the caterer used as a garden area for outdoor seating and photography.
